I’m Bree, mum of three and the heart behind Heirloomed. I live on the coast in Victoria, Australia. I’ve spent over 20 years working in creative arts and storytelling, but my love for history and jewellery started when I was a teenager. After recently becoming a full time carer my life looks very different. Now, I spend my days caring for a loved one as well as curating vintage and antique jewellery. I’m finding passion in things I truly love and gaining a deeper understanding of myself.

✨ Come antique jewellery sourcing with me…

Two little hearts, nearly a century of history. 💗

This 1920s Australian signet ring has a double-heart design with a dainty pink synthetic sapphire. Small, sentimental and full of antique character.

The engraving shows signs of its years, so this one is for someone who loves their jewellery with a little history written into it.

A lovely reminder that the most interesting pieces don’t have to be the biggest.

Not gold? That doesn’t mean it’s worthless! 💎

One of the biggest mistakes people make when buying antique and vintage jewellery is assuming that if it isn’t gold, it must have little value.

Recently, Bree from @heirloomed brought me two beautiful pieces — a swallow brooch and a garnet brooch.

Neither was made of gold, but that certainly didn’t make them worthless!

Here’s what I look for beyond the metal content:

✨ Age & history – Antique pieces can be highly collectible regardless of their metal content.

✨ Craftsmanship – The C-type clasp, solder joints and foil-backed stones on Bree’s garnet brooch tell us so much about its construction.

✨ Design & rarity – Beautifully made, unusual pieces can be highly desirable.

✨ Maker & provenance – Think Miriam Haskell and Chanel. Some costume jewellery can command prices higher than ordinary gold jewellery.

✨ Originality & condition – A little wear doesn’t necessarily mean a piece has lost its value.

The lesson? The metal is only one part of the story.
