In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, I’ll be joined by artists and mental health advocates to discuss grief, its impact on communities of color, and the stories we tell.

Today we celebrate #WomensEqualityDay that marks 100 years since the 19th amendment was adopted to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Let’s pause for a moment because NOT all women (Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous) were given the same equal opportunities to participate in the voting process. Not to mention that BIPOC womxn continue to be left behind in terms of healthcare, education, and pay equity (the wage gap). Additionally we continue to get behind everyone else’s fight and realize later that we’ve been our own advocates in so many spaces. It’s time to stand in solidarity together and demand true equality in every aspect of our daily lives and circles.

I selected this picture of Whitney Houston, because duh - it’s #WhitneyWednesday and she’s hands down the GREATEST ever. Alright aside from that…this moment in history when she sang the “Star Spangled Banner” is one of the few times in history that really make me feel those words and remember that we (women + being a woman of color) deserve to be treated equally and receive respect.
