The raw reality of event planning: Flexibility, community, and the power of pivoting. 🧵 👇

This past weekend, HelaPlex hosted our 2026 Annual Founder’s Roof-Top BBQ in partnership with @vianexta. To say the planning for this type of event is “not for the weak” would be a massive understatement.

Behind every successful corporate event is a series of fires being put out in real time. We faced significant hurdles leading up to the big day:

- Tech Glitches: Our invitation platform malfunctioned, preventing us from hiding the guest list or limiting RSVPs. We went in completely blind on final headcount and cost requirements.

- Logistical Delays: On the day of, major internal scheduling and equipment delays meant the food wasn’t ready when guests arrived right on time.
But we pushed forward anyway.

What happened next is a true testament to the power of the #startup community we are building. Instead of frustration, our guests brought patience, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit. They stepped up, helped us carry equipment, and seamlessly assisted in transitioning the party from the Roof-Top down to the lobby area of The Hamilton just to help us beat the incoming thunderstorm.

They kept the energy high and the party going. What was supposed to end at 8:00 PM stretched all the way until 11:00 PM!

We could not have saved the night without our incredible support system. A massive shoutout to:

Melina Blees: For supporting our team and hunting down much-needed ice when every local store was completely sold out.

Our Extended Family: For jumping in and taking over the grilling duties.

@shotbybond 📸 : For capturing the entire night beautifully through photos!

A huge thank you to our co-hosts ViaNexta, and an even bigger thank you to our resilient guests who turned operational friction into an unforgettable evening of connection. Event planning might be unpredictable, but when you have the right people in the room, everything falls into place.

On Sunday, September 21st, Bound Therapeutics earned third prize in the 2025 Next Star Million-Dollar Global Challenge – North America Biomedical Special Competition, receiving a cash award of approximately $7,000.

This prestigious competition was organized by the 中国科学技术协会（China Association for Science and Technology）the Shenzhen Nanshan District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, and other esteemed partners.
