Let me re-introduce myself. Hi, I’m Hege 👋💛

If we haven’t actually met: I’m a crochet designer @heldesigncrochet and an artist @heldesignart from Norway, where I live with my English handyman ❤️ I’m usually mid-project, powered by instant coffee & milk, and I’m a slightly stubborn optimist. You also often find me unwillingly and horizontally on the sofa.

I’ve lived in a fibro body for half my life, and somewhere along the way I stopped fighting it and started designing days that work with me instead of against me.

For a while I tried to make this account fit into one neat box. It never worked, because I’m not one thing, and maybe you aren’t either. So here’s the honest version: this is a creative life, lived in a chronic body, at its own pace. Crochet, art, travel, home, slow mornings, designed days, they’re not separate niches. They’re all the same thing. A softer, fuller, more functional life, built on purpose.

What I want this corner of the internet to become is a place where creativity, comfort and real life meet. Built on the belief that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful! 😍💫

Swipe left to properly meet me, then say hi down below and tell me one random thing about you!👇 Let’s make some good days together! 😍💛🌿

—————

Building HELdesign. Making things. Making our home. Figuring out how to fit big plans into a body with limitations. Travelling, gardening, going out, trying new things and collecting memories with the people I love.

Basically, I’m building the business without cropping the rest of my life out of the picture. 💛

If that sounds like your kind of corner of Instagram, welcome! 🥰

Has this happened to you when designing something? 🤭
I couldn’t help laughing when I saw the other design, I found it quite funny that we both came up with such a similar outcome. We both clearly have good taste 😂

If you wonder which wrist warmers I’m talking about, they are the newest pattern from the lovely and talented Lillian @hekletante_design 🥰🩷

Anyways, my plan of a quick pattern for once didn’t happen this time either. Story of my design progress isn’t it 😂

“Pack your bag. We’re going away this weekend.” 🏍️💛

That was all Rob told me on Thursday. An early birthday surprise and our last motorcycle trip of the year 🥹

Friday took us to Bømlo in the rain, where we spent the evening with my mum and auntie. By Saturday, the sun had come out for the ride to Stavanger, with a coffee stop in Haugesund and a stop to watch friends play rugby before checking in.

Rob had booked @homehotelskagenbrygge, right on the waterfront in the middle of Stavanger, and dinner at @pinchonation . Delicious food, a fun night out with my favourite, a lot of laughing and a whole weekend someone else had planned. Such a lovely thing to be treated to. He knows I love a surprise and he’s very good at giving them 😍💛

Sunday was sunshine and a wander around Stavanger before heading home. Beautiful on the bike, although a little cold by the end 🥶😂

The following week involved a fair bit of recharging. With fibro, even the loveliest experiences come with a recovery period. Enjoying every minute doesn’t mean my body lets me off the hook afterwards, but it’s worth every second 🫠

I’m so thankful for the weekend, the thought Rob put into it and these memories we get to keep together 🩷 A very lovely way to finish this year’s riding season 🏍️🍂

The darker months are here, and instead of dreading them, I’m trying to make them something to look forward to ☕️🍂

One of the biggest changes I’ve made is blocking social media for the first 90 minutes of my day.

Because apparently, having a coffee while scrolling Instagram for half an hour isn’t quite the peaceful morning routine I thought it was 🫠

So now I’m trying to give that time back to myself 🫶🏻

Coffee, journaling, a little movement, and time with my sketchbook before the rest of the world gets my attention.

Living with fibro means two mornings are never quite the same, and that’s okay. I’m not trying to create the perfect routine. Just one that makes my days feel a little better.

And honestly, making time for drawing again might be my favourite part of it all ✏️💛

Do you reach for your phone first thing in the morning, or have you managed to break the habit?

For years, I haven’t known what I wanted to paint. No ideas that made me want to pick up a brush. Just a long art block and the frustration of missing something I used to love.

Starting my Sketchbook Café experiment helped me begin drawing again. And now, for the first time in years, I have ideas I’m excited to explore. 🥹🎨

So here I am, preparing a canvas. Not painting yet, but finally wanting to.

I want to bring my drawing, painting and crochet together in the same artwork. The crochet designer and the artist in me are finally collaborating 🧶🖌️

I’m excited, nervous, and curious to see where this takes me.

Have you ever found your way back to something you thought you’d lost?

If you’re new here, hi, I’m Hege 👋🏻 An artist and crochet designer in my 40s, finding my way back after years of art block 🎨 I love realism and details, but I’m learning to loosen my brushstrokes and stop treating every sketch like it’s going into a gallery 🫠

Follow along for sketchbook experiments, café sketches and a new chapter where drawing, painting and crochet meet. Creating with fibro, a busy brain and a perfectionist streak means finding my own pace. But I’m making art again, and I want to see where it takes me 💛

Welcome to Sketchbook Café Episode 1 💛

Where the first brave step was taking the plastic off the sketchbook ☕✏️

I’ve been stuck in an art block for a long time, and I’ve missed drawing. Sketchbook Café is my little experiment to try to find my way through it: cute cafés, something delicious, and slowly filling these pages.

A different café each time, with one rule: I don’t leave until my sketch is finished. This spontaneous first visit ended between appointments, so I finished the page at home. Next time, the rule begins properly!

Honestly, I’m not entirely happy with this first sketch. But that’s part of the point: putting that pencil to paper, letting myself sketch, and share it even when it’s not perfect.

Here’s to a little less overthinking and a little more creating 🩷

📓 My new sketchbook is from @hobbykjelleren_sentrum
☕ First stop: @bakerbrun1893 Bystasjonen

Where should Sketchbook Café take me next? Recommend a cozy café in Bergen, somewhere lovely to sit and draw 💛

A little late to the #croctober party, but bringing someone who takes crochet very seriously 🐈🧶

Meet Lucifer: lap occupier, rug tester and firm believer that anything handmade was made for him.

I crochet. He claims it.
His rug? Obviously.
My lap? Reserved.
Anything crocheted? Also his.

Does your pet claim your crochet too? 🥰

You asked, I listened 🩷

So many people have asked for it, so now my crochet hexagon jacket is finally getting a pattern! 🥰

I’m testing it in different types of yarn and thicknesses 🤍

My crochet corner is always messy and covered in notes when I’m designing and transcribing 🤭😂

I haven’t crocheted with Drops Air in a long time. Forgot how soft and lovely it is, can’t wait to wear this jacket 😍

Romanticising this awful weather with crochet, a blanket and coffee ☕️🧶 While I turn the jacket you asked for into an actual pattern. 💛

What would you most like me to include in the pattern? by @heldesignhege

I’ve been overthinking the Norwegian vs English question for far too long. Which, if you know me, is probably not particularly surprising 😂

So now I’m actually testing it instead of making another plan. Some videos will be Norwegian. Some will be English. English hooks and subtitles will make sure everyone can follow along.

And if I suddenly switch language halfway through a sentence, well… Welcome to my brain. 🤭🇳🇴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Figuring it out as I go. Apparently in two languages now 😆

If you live in Bergen, you know what I’m talking about! Make those 5 minutes count! 😍☀️😂

I can’t remember a worse summer. We’ve barely had a whole day of sun! The garden is suffering, my fibro body is not happy,
and the heat wave is skipping us yet again. But we still have more summer left, so let’s cross our fingers and hope it turns! 😍☀️🙏🏻

——
