“Semblance of a functioning democracy” - sadly never gets dated 🥺

I ordered the Democrat blue for the armpit rubber pieces and chopped up a bunch of crutches to make these— using the miter-saw myself, for 6 months 😓😓
There is no welding involved 😉

My crisis at the studio may be coming to some sort of a resolution 😓😅

Hi y’all, just wanted to share my Sculpture work from 2015- of shoe shaped boxes, it was my second solo show, obviously informed by my past career as a shoe designer 🤷🏻‍♀️
The boxes are constructed with butter board often used for architectural models, and wrapped with hexis vinyl, which can also wrap cars apparently; some are painted and some printed. And the boxes were made like boxes are usually made, meaning, as much as possible the pattern is made in one piece.

I also made a wallpaper using the patterns of these boxes because the patterns were too cool looking #7,#8

I have a few other designs I’m constructing. but these take painstaking work, because if you screw up 1/16 of an inch on one corner, you have to make the whole thing over again, not to mention the vinyl piece sticking before you were ready to match every corner 😱😱 for someone as spastic as I am, a true nightmare! But I also know that I’m the only one that can make patterns like these 🙄🙄at least so far— two volunteer students kept pursuing me to be my assistants, but, it was going to be a lot more work for me to teach them how to make them 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I have to do everything on my own 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course, I’m great at inventing things hard to marker 🙄 but not impossible ☝️!!

Michael came by for a brief studio visit Saturday, and while we were sitting in the couch, I took an impromptu snapshot; he just had great colors on, couldn’t help myself—-but his posture was so so 😁
I know I made him look 20 but who cares! I took all 10 or 15 minutes painting this so hold your complaints! 😂 @eksnels by @heleninorbit

Lovely Skylar came by for his portrait, some 8 years since met him ❤️— he was my neighbor in my old studio building where he managed a very cool clothing company. He seems to know quite a bit about contemporary art, and cares about authenticity in all areas of art 👍😉

David came by for a studio visit last week, so I had him sit for me at the end though I had only an hr at best— Sometimes finishing after the subject leaves creates a bit of a problem for me (unless I had imagined the scene a bit ahead): it opens up too many options for me in what to make up in the background 🙄😄

He asked me why I don’t work from a photo generally— well, I like the fact that it’s somewhat rare now, and I like being able to make errors from Ad-lib decisions, where it forces me to trust my impulses more. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gary, à neighbor that used to come over often to my old studio in the art district. Kind of a strange person, but had an interesting face. 😉 oops, sorry, I was reformatting my original work ion my iPad, and somehow the layer with the piece of the teeshirt got included on top 🙄maybe I should just repost? 🤪 still learning how to use my iPad.😖 by @heleninorbit
