When it comes to feeling anxious, ruffled, unsettled or overwhelmed, it’s often the absolute basics that bring about powerful grounding and regulating to our nervous systems. I’d love to know what you’d add to this list of things I find most helpful:

1. 🧈 Eat protein and fat within the first hour of waking. this signals caloric safety to your system (no need to go out and hunt today!) which puts your nervous system and hormones into a more regulated state throughout the day.
2. 🥩 Eat protein with each of your meals to help regulate your blood sugar levels which will help regulate your nervous system, leaving you feeling more grounded.
3. Spend time in nature🌳. Pretty much everyone feels better, calmer, more grounded and more regulated when we are in a beautiful, green, natural environment - why? so many reasons. Primarily because we are part of nature and feel best while we’re bathed in it.
4. Play. 🤸🏼‍♀️Play, without any measured outcome (i.e. no goals) tells our nervous system we’re safe.
5. Spend time with people who you feel comfortable to be yourself around. 🥰 This fosters a sense of belonging. It allows you to just BE authentically you, without the need for masks or holding back parts of yourself. Ah what a relief!
6. 🐌 Slow down and extend your exhale. Try 10 breaths of inhaling for the count of 4, and exhaling for the count of 6. you’ll feel calmer by the end of it.
7. Shake your body. 〰️Pop on a 3-10 minute vigorous track you like and just shake your body for the duration of the song. No rhythm needed (in fact lack of rhythm can be ideal here!)

What else would you add? What helps your nervous system to feel safe? 💜🫶🏼 by @helenpadarin

3 simple ways to cultivate a better relationship with yourself! The things that seem easy are just as easily forgotten.

1. Awareness - gently reacquaint yourself with your body. We spend so much time in our heads we often forget to listen to our bodies. Build your relationship and communication with your body and you will start notice and understand what it’s telling you.

2. Support your body - hydrate, nourish, rest, ground, movement. Our physical bodies are the vehicles for our experience in this life. Tending to it supports structure, strength and resilience - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually

3. Self Care - tending to self - tuning in and asking yourself: “what do I need now, in this moment / day / phase or stage of my life?”. Self care can absolutely be the simple things like massages and facials and eating well AND it’s also tending to our raw and vulnerable parts, our long held wounds that require compassionate, kind attunement and care for deep, foundational healing. by @helenpadarin

10 of my most frequently recommended books in clinic …..
What’s on your list of favourites? 🩵 📖 🐛

The Complete Gut Health Cookbook by @chefpeteevans and @helenpadarin the OG of
Gut health foundations for anyone recovering not only from gut issues but also from chronic illness, autoimmunity, allergy…..

It Didn’t Start With You by @markwolynn . It’s not just genetics that are passed down through families. It is stories, traumas, beliefs, behaviours and survival patterns. Mark teaches about inherited family trauma, how it plays out in our own personal lives and how to end the cycle. So powerful.

An OG in the real food for babies and toddlers space in Australia (some would say it came out ahead of its time!). Still a cracker, not only for little people, but I love this for delicious nutrient dense mobile food - school and work lunches for medium and big people too!

Becoming Whole by @karima.eames . Karima has been a teacher of mine for about 23yrs, and I describe this book of hers as a manual for being human. How do we love, listen to and include all parts of ourselves? How do we feel and process difficult emotions so that we can release the tension of holding them and open ourselves to great joy, love and fulfilment? This book is a users manual on how to do this.

When The Body Says No by @gabormatemd . If we don’t learn and express our boundaries, our bodies will, saying “No!” by developing an illness that may bring us to a stand still. For many, creating boundaries and learning to say “No” is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health..

The Secret Language of Your Body by @innasegalauthor . I LOVE this reference book. I have generally found it very spot on in identifying the message of particular symptoms in particular parts of our body. It lines up with my observation in 25 yrs of clinical practice, and has parallels with other philosophies such as GNM and Taoism.

Comment MANUAL for your pass. by @helenpadarin

🍃You want to say “no,” but hear yourself saying “of course.” Only afterwards do you notice the resentment, tension or exhaustion.

🍃You finally have time to rest, and you feel restless, guilty or anxious. You start looking for something that needs doing.

🍃You’re in a safe situation, but your body stays on guard. You scan faces, rehearse explanations or prepare for something to go wrong.

🍃You want connection, but stop replying to people you care about. Reaching out feels beyond your capacity, even when you feel lonely.

🍃Something deeply upsetting happens, and you become remarkably practical. You organise, manage and support everyone else, while your own feelings seem inaccessible.

A regulated nervous system isn’t always a calm one. It’s a responsive one that has boundaries, a voice and can take action if and when required. And it can rest, deeply, too.

These patterns are often protective or survival imprints from early life experiences that we carry with us throughout adulthood, unless we begin to recognise them and, with support and practice, build the safety and capacity to respond in ways that meet our needs in the present. by @helenpadarin

What l’ve learnt about healing in my 26 years as a practitioner...

Nothing happens in isolation, everything is connected, and going back to basics is most powerful.

Humans like to complicate things. We’re also a weird animal in that we think we should be able to create unnatural environments and diets and still be able to thrive (imagine a koala living in a wombat hole eating peanuts and then wondering why it’s not feeling great).

Most of healing is just getting back in sync with the rhythms and laws of nature, and getting back into connection with ourselves, each other and nature.

When we do that, there’s very little left that needs attending to by @helenpadarin

Your menstrual cycle (or the moon cycle if you’re not bleeding) is a barometer and compass for your wellbeing and integrity. If premenstrually, or in the lead up to a dark moon, you are feeling particularly irritable / moody / impatient ask yourself:
Where did I edit myself in the last month? @where did I say yes, or let something slide where I actually wasn’t really ok with. This audit helps to bring to light where we cross ourselves or have leaky boundaries or sabotage ourselves for the sake of short term peace, rather than truth or clarity.

The stages of a woman’s life cycle - Maiden, Mother / Creatrix, Maga and Crone - like all other cycles - circadian, menstrual, lunar and more - follow the same pattern of birth, growth, full expression, letting go, rest / death and back to rebirth.

Experience what it is to Live in Sync WITH these cycles, feeling their support and direction, in our course starting tomorrow, Monday 12th. Comment INSYNC for details 🫶🏼🌀🐚 🌹

This is from a wonderful chat with @sharonmselby called where we had a nice long discussion on cycles and how they impact us. We spoke about how we start cycles impacts how a cycles pans out - whether we are conscious and aware of the cycle starting or not. There’s so much power in bringing awareness to how we start cycles 🌀🖤
