idk man 2025 was fucking crazy. this might’ve been the first year in my life that i said “yes” to nearly everything and i have zero regrets. i visited canada for the first time! i went to coachella (again)! i visited *vietnam*! i went to an insane amount of shows and spent a bunch of time with my friends and family. going into 2026, my only resolution is to keep working this hard and hopefully stay this blessed. i’m so freaking lucky to have all of yall in my life 💜🫶 happy new year!!! by @helicopterhawk

One of the last things I had the privilege of visiting here in Hanoi was Hòa Lò prison, known in the states as the Hanoi Hilton. This was where American POWs were detained during the Vietnam War, but long before that had been used by French colonialists to detain political prisoners. Despite the squalid conditions and constant torture, the revolutionary spirit of these men was never extinguished, and many of them went on to become leaders in the future government once they regained control of their country. All any of these people wanted, whether revolutionary or just one of the masses, was the right to lead their country as they saw fit. Shortly after that, we started a war of our own to stop them from doing that very thing. History is littered with stories like this, colonialist and imperialist nations trying to impose their way of living on others by force. It is deeply embarrassing and upsetting that a nation that calls itself “the land of the free” would restrict the freedom of others, almost always with guns and bombs. The damage that has been done to Vietnam by its oppressors has kept it from growing into what should be one of the most developed countries in the world. Despite that, this is a nation that is thriving, and I cannot wait to return soon and see how much further it has grown. This trip has been an experience that has moved me deeply. I spent the day cycling, rowing, and hiking all over Ninh Binh. As my trip starts to wind down, I find myself wishing I had much more time here to explore what is a beautiful nation with so much more to see.
