THE INFAMOUS DOWN STAY🐕🔥✅

I pull this bad boy out pretty often. Just this morning, we were rushed by a lab. Granted, he likely had no malicious intent, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. So I put my pack in a down and helped the owner get ahold of his dog.

A few other use cases for this command would be:

1. Trail Breaks or Hikes– Quickly calm your dog on the trail if people, bikes, or other dogs pass by.

2. Park Hangouts – Let your dog lounge safely allowing you to interact with others without the worry of tracking what your dog is up to.

3. Outdoor Dining – Keep your dog relaxed at pet-friendly cafés or restaurants.

4. Busy Sidewalks – Rein in their excitement when encountering crowds or street performers.

5. Indoor Calm Sessions – Provide a designated “chill” spot when the doorbell rings or during family movie nights.

If you need help introducing this to your dog. Send us a DM and we will get you squared away 💯. by @hellak9s

Bullmastiffs were known as "The Gamekeeper's Night Dog." Bred in 1800s England, they silently tracked poachers across estates, then pinned them down without a bite until help arrived.

Meanwhile, your entire home security plan is remembering to lock the front door.

Private lessons should leave you feeling like you can actually handle your dog without the trainer standing next to you.

That means you’re not just watching someone work your dog for an hour. You’re learning what to do, why you’re doing it, and what to change when things don’t go exactly as planned.

Because the real test of a good lesson is what happens when you get home and the trainer isn’t there.

What do you look for when choosing a private trainer?

Impulse control doesn’t seem like a big deal until you’re somewhere like the Rockies and a whole herd of cattle suddenly walks right past you.

That’s when you find out whether your dog actually knows how to think before reacting, or if they’re just good at listening when nothing interesting is happening.

A dog with solid impulse control can see something exciting without immediately chasing it, pulling toward it, or losing their mind over it. That skill matters way beyond training sessions. It’s what gives you more freedom to take your dog places and trust how they’ll handle themselves when something unexpected shows up.

Because eventually, something will show up.

What would your dog do if a herd of cattle walked up while you were camping?

Oakley is doing amazing with his off leash heel!

Oakley’s owners started out in our Basic Obedience Group Class, and he completed about five classes before coming to us for a 2 week Board and Train.

His owner only asked me to focus on two things: a heel and an off leash recall. She wasn’t asking for an off leash heel, just a nice loose leash walk. But Oakley is a smart guy, so we were able to go above and beyond what she asked for.

I’m really proud of how far he’s come! #dogtraining #offleash taken in New Braunfels, Texas by @hellak9s

Leash pulling in working dogs usually isn’t about obedience.

It’s about state of mind.

A dog that’s already mentally elevated before the walk even starts will naturally pull, scan, fixate, and rush forward.

Most owners accidentally build this by rewarding anticipation:
- Explosive exits
- Immediate forward movement
- Constant stimulation
- No calm before action

The dog stays in a constant state of pressure.

Structure before movement changes everything.

Teach neutrality before the reward.
Teach patience before access.
Teach calm before intensity.

That’s how control becomes reliable even in high-drive dogs.

Newfoundlands have saved countless people from drowning thanks to their webbed feet and natural swimming ability.

Meanwhile, your friend still wears a life jacket in the shallow end.
