`RECURRING DREAM`
BY COREY SCHNEIDER
Shown @thedarkroomsexhibition - Veins

In 1959, Brion Gysin developed a machine designed to be experienced with closed eyes. You sit in front of it, close your eyelids, and the flickering begins. Colors, patterns, fractals. Through rhythmic pulses of light, the machine stimulates the optic nerve, generates visual phenomena, and calms the brainʼs alpha waves.
Gysin described this experience as a journey inward. There is no movement through geographic space; instead, attention turns toward the shifting landscapes of perception and the unconscious.
But is it possible to catch a glimpse of these landscapes with our eyes open?
This installation brings Gysinʼs historic machine into 2026 through contemporary technology. The inner world is projected outward. Moving projections and layered sound compositions create an environment that is constantly evolving throughout the space. The installation does not simply
represent the inner experience—it translates it into a shared spatial encounter.
The physical presence of Gysinʼs machine lies at the heart of Corey Schneiderʼs installation. Beyond its ability to alter perception, the machine is also a kinetic sculpture.
The installation draws attention to the way its rhythms unfold within the space and enter into dialogue with the surrounding architecture.

Recurring Dream is an immersive light and sound installation inspired by Dreamachine (1959), created by Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville. Dreamachine used rhythmic pulses of strobing light to produce vivid patterns of hallucinatory visual effects. Gysin’s work explored “interior vision”, offering not images but the conditions through which they might arise.

Recurring Dream extends this proposition outward, transforming a contained perceptual device into an immersive environment. Light unfolds in shifting forms that gather and dissolve, while time loosens into cycles of acceleration and suspension.

A sonic field moves in concert with the work, circling, phasing and folding back on itself. Patterns of light grow and oscillate between rapid motion and stillness. Sounds traverse the space alongside wandering beams of light, drifting and repeating until light and sound begin to feel like two halves of a greater whole.

At a time when we consume images almost constantly through screens, Recurring Dream asks for something slower and more physical: to be present with an experience that cannot be fully captured in a photograph or video.

After nearly two years in the making, the work was shown as part of @thedarkroomsexhibition in July 2026.

This piece has brought me tremendous joy and fulfillment which would not have been remotely possible without the combined efforts of many talented people to whom I owe my gratitude.

For their technical and creative contributions, without which I would be completely lost:

MULTIPOLAR
on view since 2024 at Futurium Lab, Berlin

A kinetic system of dodecahedral structures unfolding as a molecular body in perpetual reconfiguration.

Motorized joints drive a multi axis system through continuously shifting states. Movement patterns oscillate between mechanical precision and emergent behavior, forming a spatial structure in constant transformation.

MULTIPOLAR draws on speculative form finding derived from AI driven material research: generating, testing, selecting. A process of possibility expansion and reduction translated into motion.

From molecular logic to kinetic form.
Between system and emergence.

🙏 to our amazing team:

Every decision, from cable routing to material finish, was part of a larger conversation about perception, complexity, and resonance. The collaborative energy and trust across the team were key to bringing MULTIPOLAR to life.

„DEVIATION“ by
@studiosvensauer

The installation spreads out across the room as a carpet of glass fragments.
Woven from shards collected from all over the world.

In our society, broken glass symbolizes something ominous.
Broken windows precede earthquakes. Shards are broken during riots when anger thunders against shop windows. And there is glass that is deliberately broken to stop people. Shards of glass on the tops of walls. Sharp-edged borders.

If we look at our world today, there seem to be shards everywhere.
On closer inspection, we humans don’t usually come off well.
But are we really as dark as we perceive ourselves to be?

Studies and eyewitness accounts from recent decades paint a very different picture of humanity.
The installation is based on texts by historian @RutgerBregman.
The data shows that in times of great hopelessness, people always moved closer together. The willingness to help grew.
Since the negative is louder, this is often taken as a general truth. But in times of need, the exact opposite happens.
The installation addresses the misconception that people fall into barbarism in a state of emergency.

Sven Sauer works with the stories and data from the studies in his installation.
The shards are processed in such a way that from a certain angle, a light is created that is divided a hundredfold.

The first pictures of our new installation “DEVIATION”.

Is human nature really as evil as we are told every day? Social studies analyzed after the Second World War showed that in times of need and catastrophe, people moved closer together. This feeling seems to be lost in our daily perception today. But the artwork gives an insight into the world that lies behind our dark news landscape.

MULTIPOLAR - CAD-Footage

"Multipolar" demonstrates how atoms and molecules form various materials. By combining movement, sound and light, the sculpture creates an immersive experience that highlights the importance of material research and the properties of the smallest particle structures.

It consists of 16 axes and includes approximately 4000 individual parts.

The sculpture was designed in SolidWorks.

The work is displayed permanent at FUTURIUM Museum.

Private Project: METEOR

Excited to share this video of the sound reactive mode of METEOR.

METEOR was initially built for the Kiezburn Festival on July 23, creating a mesmerizing outdoor bonfire-like experience. It served as a meeting point where people could sit, gaze inside, and lose themselves in the endless interweaving effects of the 900 programmed LEDs.

Stay tuned for upcoming updates and exciting collaborations!
