The 🔪 of the month for October is the Helle Nordlys FG 🔥

Weighing in at 100 grams, the Nordlys FG is surprisingly light-weight for a fulltang. The blade is thinner stock, flat-ground and skeletonized, meaning that the FG excels as an all-purpose hunting knife. Why you should always start at the end.....

I have always had to reverse engineer everything in my life to understand it.
Whether that's my neurodivergency, or simply the way my young mind developed while trying to make sense of a world that seemed far too mature for me to figure out.

So I keep my boots on the ground.I sit back. I watch people do. And then I learn.

When people design things, they often start in boardrooms and draft rooms... rooms.

Rooms fed by data. Pre-moulded beliefs being reinforced by numbers on a screen.

Sometimes, that data leads them to me.

The VAKE is one such knife.

And @hellenorway is one such company.

A company that, to me, is Scandinavian antithesis of those data-fed bunkers. A company that understands that production isnt the enemy but production without understanding is.

So when I was asked to design a field knife for people who had made the outdoors their life, I didn't start with a drawing.

I went straight to the people who actually use knives.

And to my journals.

For a decade, I had been making notes.

What parts of a knife did people use the most?

What did they praise?

What did they criticise?

Where did their knives let them down?

Where, during their day, was the right tool simply not available?

And slowly, I realised there was a space missing.

A space between the river and the classroom.

So I started at the end.

From the hands of the people who would actually use it, I worked backwards.

The VAKE was refined and tuned with the knowledge and craftsmanship that only a company like Helle can bring to the table.

Steel was found.

Handles were formed by hands that carry memories from days before digitisation.

Ideas were discussed over coffees and cakes.

And somewhere between decades of experience, countless conversations, a pizza box lid, pencils and late-night journal scribblings...

a true lifestyle knife was born. Something built from it and not made to be pushed into it.Maybe that's why I believe you should always start at the end.

Don't ask what you can make.

Ask who you're making it for.

Then work backwards.
