It FINALLY happened: I broke the 3-minute barrier on a NYT xword, and it wasn’t even on a Monday puzzle! (I solve almost exclusively on my iPad in the app, so this is all with a virtual keyboard. I might be faster on a computer. I’ll probably never find out.) A screenshot of the solve screen (no spoilers), showing that I solved today’s puzzle in 2:32. by @hellmanmd

Little adventure on the bike tonight with @casey.c.raymond at @wgi1948! Looking forward to seeing the photos from @turn_6_photos soon. Back view of a male cyclist in a chartreuse helmet and jersey that’s dark blue on top and gold underneath, riding on a racetrack near the grandstand. by @hellmanmd

In many places, a flight as short as 350 miles would be a train ride. Screen shot from the top of a NYT article. The headline and subhed read “Delta Will Stop Serving Snacks and Drinks on Short Flights
Most travelers flying less than 350 miles on Delta will soon have to go without free coffee and cookies, but the carrier is adding service to longer flights.” There’s a photo of a plane taking off into a blue sky, with a city skyline in the background. by @hellmanmd

@hamegram, in his new cookbook, homes in on one of my gripes about many cookbooks: not including water in the list of ingredients, even if you need a measured specific amount added to the recipe rather than, say, a pot of boiling water to cook something in. Guess I’ll find out in a little bit if his book does the same thing and that’s why he’s warning us! Page 10, bottom corner by the page number, black type on a pink page. It reads “Before doing anything, make sure you read the entire recipe. You want a good idea of what you will be doing, and many recipes sneak in a measurement of water or salt instead of including it in the ingredient list. You want to be fully prepared for what's to come.” by @hellmanmd

@twosheep and I both have adults in our fiber stashes! Here’s mine: four variegated hanks and one plain of Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend. (The color is truer in the picture of my work on top of my iPad.) I got this in New Orleans in April 2008 (still in the original bag from the yarn shop!), not long after I learned to knit. If I’d tried to use it then, I might have quit! All of the hanks were nightmares to deal with. The ties were so tight they strangled the yarn and may have contributed to them being slightly felted together, and it was impossible to tell what was tie and what was yarn and where the ends were, hence the many pieces. (But it spit-splices beautifully, lol.) And 3 of the 5 were badly hanked so they didn’t open up and go onto the swift neatly; when I started to wind them, they needed to get passed through and untangled, in a couple of cases even reeling off the swift in the opposite direction before turning around again, rendering a ball winder useless. Good thing it’s pretty and squishy and soft. A bit of variegated purple knitting lies on top of an iPad with a navy cover. by @hellmanmd

Honey citron tea from the local Asian market is my new low-key obsession. No clue if I’m doing it right, but I put a couple of spoonfuls into a big mug and then add nearly boiling water, stir, and wait till it cools enough to not scald my throat. It’s citrusy and sweet and perfect in a cold rainy day. It has shreds of peel and a few seeds; sometimes I’ll munch a little of the peel but I’m wondering if I should be putting it into a tea strainer, given the seeds. And I’m going to need to get another jar soon! A short and squat jar of honey citron tea, with writing on the label in English and Korean. by @hellmanmd
