Affordable watches are getting ridiculous.

That dial, those details, and the view on the wrist. This Citizen keeps giving me reasons to look again.

I bought this the year I turned 18. First watch I ever actually paid for.

I knew nothing. Didn't know quartz from automatic, didn't know what a chronograph did, didn't know what the tachymeter ring around the edge was for, I still haven't used it. I saw a blue dial, thought it looked good, and that was the whole decision. That was the entire depth of my research.

And it did the job. For years. Quartz, so it just ran, battery in, battery out, kept time, never asked for anything, never made me think about it. Which, at 18, was exactly the right amount of watch.

Ten-plus years later, honestly? It looks ok. Not a grail, not an heirloom and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But the sunburst still does its thing when the light hits it, and the bracelet has held up better than it had any right to.

It's the one that started it, though. Everything I know about watches now, I know because this one made me curious enough to go looking.
