Take a stroll with me through my favorite shop in Summerland! Did you know that @botanik_summerland is the OG Summerland home decor shop! The owner has been there since the beginning of times and she still hand plants everything in the garden! 🪴

This beautiful imperfect loaf of sourdough taught me a life lesson yesterday, or maybe it was a much needed reminder. I’ve been wanting to experiment with a new ingredient in my dough. So Wednesday night I decided to try it. My starter was “weak”, but I proceeded. Thursday morning, I looked at the dough and thought “no way”, but shaped the loaves anyway, put them in bannetons, and into the fridge they went. Yesterday afternoon I preheated my oven, grabbed the loves out of the fridge and went to turn them out onto parchment and they were stuck 😫 I pried the dough out of the bannetons and was left with two pink blobs! Thinking to myself once again, just throw them out, but I decided to go ahead and bake them because regardless of how they turned out, I could still taste it (because of the experimental ingredient I added).
So, the pink dough blobs went into their covered dutch ovens. 30 minutes later, when I took the lids off, I was surprised to see that, although not perfect in my eyes at all, they still resembled a loaf of bread! The person whom I’m giving this loaf to will have no clue how imperfect it is. She will be thankful and I know she will think it is absolutely delicious! Moral of the story, keep going regardless of how it might turn out, don’t throw it away, even if the odds are stacked against you because you might be surprised at the results!

PS-I’m also giving her a “perfect” loaf 💘💘💘
