WHAT IS TRAVEL HACKING YOU SAY⁉️

Earning as many credit card points and miles as you can (responsibly) and using them for travel.

Why? Because your cc points and miles can go much farther when used for travel through transfer bonuses and transfer partners than say a cc statement or gift card.

You’re using credit card points/miles as the form of currency to book your flight or hotel, but you’re also saving on your cc points and miles because you took advantage of a transfer partner, transfer bonus, or both. A DOUBLE SAVE!

FIND YOURSELF A PLAYER 2! What’s called in the travel hacking game as a “P2”.

It’s as simple as it sounds, you get a P2, you double your points in the same amount of time it’d take you to do yourself.

The main caveat -> you have to spend enough organically to hit the sign up bonuses and justify a P2. Secondly, you have to find a P2 (someone you can trust).

If the spend goal is absurd for the both of you, you can still make it work with manufactured spending tactics (a topic for another day and an entire biz model for some).

All this to say, I hit this goal in a little over 8 months with a good strategy and a P2 in the mix.

You can too with a trusty P2 💕

CREDIT CARD COMBOS ARE POWERFUL 💥

You can pair 2, 3, and sometimes 4 cards together to hit all organic spending categories. Thus, maximizing your rewards. Only caveat here is make sure at least one of them allows you to transfer your points to airlines/hotels so you’re not stuck with straight cash back.

Yes, I used ‘thus’ in an Instagram caption because we’re proper AF at Travel AF.

THE ONE… you’ll use responsibly. Yep, not sexy!! But it’s the truth! On top of that…

it comes down to the type of spender/saver you are, travel goals, and everything else I mention in the vid.

Transferable points cards are your best friend 🫶 and if you don’t have one, you are missing out on airline and hotel partners that could save you literally $1,000s on flights and hotel stays.

VALENTINA TO ARGENTINA! 🇦🇷

I have to come clean ya’ll… we did not find a good award flight for Vale.

However, we found alternative options to maximize her rewards with cash and we are going to take that as W. (I don’t charge if I don’t find a deal.)

Vale was looking for flights using 75K Capital One (C1) miles. The award flights are currently at 80K+ pts/miles one way = 160K+ pts/miles roundtrip for economy.

Not only do we not have enough C1 miles, but we also could find first/biz class flights for 160K+ pts/miles and economy is no bueno. However, another way to think about it is that if she had the miles and was willing to burn them, she’d save more than $2K and end up paying only taxes/fees for that flight! The only thing to keep in mind there is whether you’re willing to burn them for that trip in economy or save for a future trip in biz/first class or even a few days at a nice hotel. Your points/miles can take you much farther than you think and I’m here to help uncover the ways of the @travelaffer!

The cash price for these flights is currently $2,430. That hurts me, but when we are short on points and put into perspective our alternative options, we are going to have to bite the bullet and remind ourselves to book Summer flights in Winter and Winter flights in Summer (thanks @hello_going for the hack)!

What we decided to do in this case, was pay the cash, but use it towards a sign-up bonus (SUB). She went with a Chase card since there was a higher than normal SUB, reasonable annual fee, and it opened the door to an additional 11 airline partners. In turn, this will provide her more flexibility because now she has 2 transferrable currencies (C1 and Chase Ultimate Rewards).

We turned a negative situation into a positive and are coming out on top because she was prepared to pay the cash but decided to maximize the earnings on that cash with a SUB

AND

next year, not only will we focus on booking in the off-season, but we’ll also be STACKED with over 155K points/miles for Round 2.
