POSTS STORIES REELS
she’s out! she’s out!!!!!!!!! written, performed, recorded, and produced by me mixed by Stuart Sikes (@stuartsikes) mastered by Dan Coutant (@srmastering) this album is a gift to my younger self. we did it baby!! do you like it? (of course she fucking likes it) if I may be so bold, I highly recommend listening to this work in one sitting (the first time). it’s really an *albums album*. find a place to exist undistracted and give it your full attention (nice headphones a plus). WARNING: this album will make you feel things. 😏 #CATHO #saveme #newmusic #recovery by @hellocatho
Ok this adult music Monday was so fun and special with @hellocatho right before I took her to the airport. Catho will be playing a jazz set in Austin, Texas on Friday look in the comments below for more details soon. 👀 Enjoy this classic jazz standard with a twist… my special mouth trumpet (cause no, I can’t actually play the trumpet I am holding lol) this is “The Girl from Ipanema”. #adultmusicmonday by @hellocatho
This week CATHO is in town! @hellocatho 👀 In the midst of a busy weekend and week ahead recording our next “kids album” we took a little break to play an “adult song”, Margaret Glaspy’s @margaret_glaspy “Somebody to Anybody”. If you have ever seen CATHO and I do our adult music projects live you will have heard us play this tune, cause it’s one of our favorites! Thanks for listening. Pssssstttt. 👉If you wanna hear more of CATHO’s epic voice and songs check out her new album wherever you get your music under the name CATHO album is called “Save Me”. #adultmusicmonday #catho #margaretglaspy by @hellocatho
hello from my little corner of the world. I just listened to my album in full for the first time in months. it’s so very beautiful. I’ve felt very disconnected from it since release. I thought my life would change more after releasing such a powerful work, but it really hasn’t. my brain tells me I didn’t do enough, I’m still not doing enough, but I literally could not keep pushing and grinding and I had to get back to making money and being an adult in modern society so I’ve taken a big ole’ pause. every day that goes by, my OCD lays another brick on the wall between me and my work. the time will come for me to tear it all down, but now my time is for rest and healing. there are good things happening in my life - I have a beautiful home. a kitty has chosen me as her girl. I started doing improv and it has blown my mind. I am finally cutting out long lingering addictions. there are hard things happening in my life - my body is breaking down in real time and I’m so afraid. afraid of the future, afraid of never becoming my “best self”, afraid of the looming uncertainty of how to move forward with my particular set of *issues*. but things are clarifying and I’m trusting myself more than ever because I’ve worked very hard for that. I have no interest in being on this gaping shit hole of an app, but I will in the future so I hope you’ll forgive me for saying that. sending love and prayers and warmth and safety and self awareness and healing to all. ❤️ CATHO by @hellocatho
great spiral in the sky ~ my [current] favorite song on my album. it almost didn’t make the album because I couldn’t get the production right for the longest time, but I finally put on blinders and pushed my boundaries and made it as weird and cool and powerful as I possibly could. I’m obsessed. it’s about having a parent who’s an addict and how just living each day is accompanied by the very real feeling that things are about to spiral out of control, chaos is looming, shit is about to hit the fan. and “in between every great spiral is a lot of represssssssedddddddd” ~~~~ [anger and sadness, anger and sadness…] thank you to my magical friend @angelrosecreatrix who danced for this video in the waters of Galveston. they had never heard the song before and it wasn’t playing when we recorded this. when I combined the audio and video footage later, I got so many chills because they were so perfect together. enjoy ✨ #CATHO #saveme #greatspiralinthesky #addiction #adultchild by @hellocatho
my journey with my own singing voice has been a difficult one throughout my life. I remember being 8 or 9 and singing “amazing grace” in the shower, and when I came out, my mom told me how nice it sounded. for some reason, this caused a lightning bolt of shame and I vowed to never let anyone hear me sing again. my voice was only for me, too vulnerable for anyone else’s ears. I used to sing super normal, with little affect and a super even, non-expressive tone. I was like the ultimate harmony singer - just there to blend in with another person’s voice, which was probably more interesting than mine. my intonation has always been excellent so this worked out fine. but I thought my voice was very vanilla. at some point, I started singing my songs while a little stoned, and this opened up a more expressive side of me. I found myself doing weirder/sexier/different things with my voice on songs I’d sang a hundred times. then I started recording and producing. this launched a new era of exploration, where the mic would capture my tone so completely that I found myself playing and layering in new ways. I still added a million billion layers because I thought my voice was boring and too normy on its own, or I was too scared to let one singular voice soar out loud. I still struggle with this but I’m getting better. I recorded a song this week and I found the perfect effect for my solo voice, and I performed a take as sexy as I possibly could and it was perfect, exactly what the song needed. my next album is a sex/love album. very sensual. I’m so excited and you should be too. 📸’s from my CATHO origin era 5 years ago, the summer I was beginning “save me”. it was so fun to capture myself and I love all the colors and textures and patterns in this scene. a new fave: the other day a stranger (man) asked me what branch of the military I had been in. I was like… none. he said I had a cold air of authority about me. I think this is the version of me that comes out when I produce music. by @hellocatho
today is Bandcamp Friday lil bitches so what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna go to the link in my bio and it’s gonna take you to bandcamp and you’re gonna buy my album for only TEN DOLLARS and I’m gonna keep every cent of that also WHAT A STEAL (not compared to free, whatever) but it’s nice to paid for music/art sometimes so I implore you 🌸 📸: @fiftyfiveonepointfour #CATHO #saveme #newmusic #bandcampfriday by @hellocatho
after seeing @audreyhobert live in June, I walked around downtown Austin and listened to my album and felt pure bliss. I’m glad I captured some of that feeling. this post-album-release feeling has been wildly anticlimactic and confusing for my heart. I resist listening to it, talking about it, posting about it. I am super duper stuck. could you help me a little? could you tell me, as a resident of this tiny corner of the internet, what you like to see/hear from me, your trusty CATHO McGee? more music? me talking about stuff in life or themes from the album? production deep dives? complete radio silence? the truth is, as a wounded child in an adult body, I’m like a black hole of craving for validation and approval. yikes but basically true. I don’t want to ask for compliments, but I will ask for direction. the internet feels like a giant festering cesspool these days. save me. #CATHO #saveme #newmusic #cryforhelp #CONTENT by @hellocatho
my beloved title track - “save me” performed live and solo. this song is about my struggles to sit down and meditate. for some reason it feels like the most cringey thing I could possibly do and I avoid it like the plague. and yet, I still return to this idea that “it’s the only possible way to save me”, since I believe most of my suffering is psychological in nature. I apply perfectionist ideals to myself and then rebel against them constantly. consistency is rare. chaos is usual. fun fact: this song was fully produced with all the parts recorded and the melody composed before any lyrics were written. I drove myself to a Starbucks and said, you are not leaving this building until you write lyrics for this song. and this is what came out. full video on YT @ link in my bio :) #CATHO #saveme #newmusic #meditation #recovery by @hellocatho
my album “save me” is two weeks old today. I feel older and younger at the same time. this pic that @fiftyfiveonepointfour took of me makes me feel like a queen, an adult woman, while I’m also rocking pig tails today for the first time in decades. life is expanding in many directions and I’m feeling more myself (thank you God). have to admit ~ I feel very resistant to being *on here* and very drawn to dropping into my natural organic life. I’ve just moved to a new spot and all I want to do is nest and garden and putz and get dirty. I’m slowing wayyyyy down and spending hours every day just sitting and looking at the trees and grass and flowers and birds and butterflies in the meadow that I live next to. and giving extremely aggressive pets to my new kitty friend, an orange and white girl I’ve named Vanilla (Nilly for short). she can’t get enough. here is another beautiful review - this time of my beloved title track “save me”, written about my struggle to develop a regular meditation practice. maybe now I can finally do that :) see you soon but not that soon 😘🤘🏼 #CATHO #saveme #newmusic #meditation by @hellocatho
this song almost didn’t make the album and I’m so glad it did. it’s one of my very favorites. I could listen to it on loop maybe forever. some people think it’s really weird and are confused by it. I love that. #CATHO #angerandsadness #newmusic #recovery by @hellocatho
happy birthday to my bestest buddy Jules (@julessingsforlittles). I have an album in my phone called “Catho + Jules” so it’s always easy to go find pics. And we’re always adding new ones. Name a more iconic duo. I’ll wait. Jules is a very special human to me. A light, an anchor, a forever friend. They are so good at so many things ~ cooking, sports, gift giving, music (duh), learning new things, problem solving, and being a really really great friend… I think this may be the longest & steadiest relationship I’ve ever been in. Platonic life partners, we call ourselves. Thank you for loving me fiercely, knowing just how to make me laugh, and making my jokes slap even harder than they already do. You are such a cherished and beloved person to soooooo many people, and I feel wildly blessed to get to be so close to you in this lifetime. I’m so fucking proud of the work we’ve done together and the storms we’ve weathered. Love you the most my sweet brother cakes. ❤️ by @hellocatho
