The older I get, the more I feel like a walking contradiction.

I want a delightful, sexy, funny man to come home to, but I also really freaking love living alone and having the bed all to myself.

I want to put down roots somewhere, but I can’t stop daydreaming about spending a year in Asia.

I feel 29 most of the time, but my skin has recently started suggesting otherwise.

I’m confident in who I am, but I secretly still want you to like me.

I know there’s no “right” timeline for life, but I still worry I’m somehow behind on mine.

I want to build a big, booming, fulfilling business, but I’m also tired and a little scared of actually doing it.

I don’t know if I want kids, but I definitely don’t want biology to make that decision for me. It’s very inconvenient.

I love knowing I can do life on my own, but I’m starting to realize I don’t always want to.

I have a lot of life experience and genuinely good advice, but I’m still learning how to take my own.

I want a huge, exciting life, but I’m also starting to want a softer one.

Maybe I’m not indecisive. Maybe I’m not behind. Maybe this is just what being an adult looks like, realizing that two seemingly contradictory things can be true at exactly the same time.

So tell me: what’s your biggest contradiction? by @helloitsvero

I spent way too long thinking I needed to reach the “after” before I had anything worth sharing.

Turns out, I’m still very much in it. Building, rebuilding, starting over, getting things wrong, changing my mind, falling in love with myself and figuring out what I want the next chapter to look like.

So I’m documenting that part instead.

If you’re a fellow lost millennial still figuring shit out too, stick around. I think we’ll have a lot to talk about. ❤️ by @helloitsvero

The great thing about being in your late 30s is that you stop caring about so many things, and that’s fabulous. BUT here are 5 things I probably should’ve started caring about 10 years ago.

1. MY SKIN
The skin gods were really good to me. UNTIL THIS YEAR! I got away with no real routine, random products and avoiding the retinol/Vitamin C sea or anything involving needles.

But wrinkles are creeping in. Sunspots have declared war. So here I am at 39 learning about skincare my 26-year-old sister already knows about.

2. IT’S A NERVOUS SYSTEM GAME, BABY
The heart palpis, chest tightness, procrastination, adrenaline-fuelled productivity. As a lifelong Type A overachiever, I thought this was who I was but turns out it was my nervous system crying for help.

Learning to listen to my body and work WITH my nervous system instead of against it has been a game-changer. Sitting with my feelings AND MY THOUGHTS, CAN YOU IMAGINE?!

3. SELF-CONFIDENCE AIN’T SELF-LOVE
It straight up took me until 37 to learn this. I’ve always believed I could do big, risky, bold, wonderful things, so I assumed I loved myself.

But I sure wasn’t very nice to myself.

Since we’re stuck together for life, falling in love with myself has become one of my main missions.

4. LEARNING TO HOLD CASH MONEY
I spent 20 years holding money REAL tight and being quite/too responsible.

Then my life fell apart at 35 and then: WHY DO WE NEED SAVINGS? I MUST DO ALL THE THINGS NOW!!
I had a great freaking time around the world. Buttttt I also blew through most of my savings. Now I’m pushing 40 and it might be time to learn how to actually hold and save $.

What a concept.

5. EMBRACE THE MESSY MIDDLE
I spent years thinking I needed to reach the “after” before I could post, coach or, let’s face it, be fully happy.

The husband. Kids. Money. Community. Stability.

Maybe I never needed the before-and-after. Maybe I just needed to embrace the messy middle.

So if you’re there too, I see you. Let’s embrace it together.

And if we haven’t met, hi! I’m Véro, a Canadian in Amsterdam, pushing 40, figuring shit out, falling in love with myself & building a life I’m obsessed with. Say hi! by @helloitsvero
