DAD SAID TRAILER 🩷💙💛
Have you been a victim of narcissistic abuse or parental neglect? My graduation film “Dad Said” is all about the impact of a parent’s words and behavior on a child’s life. And trying to overcome the isolation and insecurities it brings. Don’t forget that the voices inside your head are just something your dad said and by no means who you are! :)

Edit: I don’t know why so many people are wondering what this is about. But it’s is about the Cornell 7 (Cornell 57!) case. I stand with the victim and hope she gets justice. Because so many of us, unfortunately, have been in similar circumstances. by @helloliviamay

💙 WIP How I made this shot in my animated short film Dad Said! I mainly work analog, spending most of my time on the tracing and colouring the characters.

For this film I animated in Procreate Dreams and after scanning the analog frame I edit them in After Effects and put everything together in Premiere Pro :) by @helloliviamay

My animated short film Dad Said had been selected in the student competition for the @nederlandsfilmfestival ! What a great honour that my film will be screened at the festival in Utrecht this September, everyone is invited and hope to see you there!!🙋‍♀️🎟️✨

I haven’t been doing so great this year so far. When i look in the mirror I see a face I don’t recognise and when I think I hear a voice that’s not mine. I have been admitted to a mental health facility hoping to get out of this episode. Sorry for not responding :( by @helloliviamay

I have the pleasure to announce I won this year’s @nederlandsfilmfonds WILDCARD in the Netherlands Film Festival’s Student competition!! I was so scared this story wouldn’t catch on, I would’ve never thought this would happen! Thank you for believing in my work!🙇‍♀️
I’ve been fortunate enough to have gotten such amazing reactions and heartfelt responses to this film. Which is so personal and vulnerable in nature. Please keep sharing your story with me and stay curious. I never thought I would say this but: I am so excited for what the future may hold.

I want to specifically thank:
My teacher @annaeijsbouts who guided me, with a lot of patience, through this long journey. Dealt with my stubbornness and made this film so much better.

@sanna.dvries for the amount of time she put into this project and her character animation which really helped bringing these characters and this story to life. She really understood my vision!

@torin_vreeman who was up for the challenge and did the amazing music and sound design. Who spend his summer working hard and pulling all nighters with me so we could finish this project in time.

My boyfriend (@bar_artz) and my sister for listening to me complain and being insecure about this project and the fear of it failing. :’)

And Lastly my 9 year old niece Matilde who probably colored over a 100 frames, acknowledged the amount of work it took and willingly continued helping me. She played such a big role in me being able to graduate this year!

So grateful for all the festival selections this year! 🫛🍴🧗🚬🚣🗼🩷💙💛⭐️
2025 has been an amazing year for me as an animator. After so many years of struggling with my mental health, I would’ve never imagined actually being able to graduate and get my bachelors in animation!
Next to that having the honour of receiving the Nederlands Filmfonds’ grand price in the student competition of our national film festival. (Too late to apply for the festival itself but not for the competition:P). Which is gonna be a great start as animation director. I’m excited for what’s to come in my career. Hopefully life will be kind and show me the best way to balance mental health disorders and the freelance animator workload. ✨ by @helloliviamay
