“Do you want your receipt?” Yes, yes I do.

I saved every single physical receipt from my travels across Asia. The challenge: take my chances at a thermal printer animation. Many hours of meticulously stitching each receipt together, printing, splicing, marking, scanning, and aligning. I only had one shot to print them correctly.

Here are the results featuring receipts from Japan, using one of my favorite transition sequences from Pom Poko, where the tanuki transition from maneki-neko to daruma.

Zero AI. Lots of heart.

In 1999, Taiwan introduced the world’s first animated walk sign, the “Little Green Man” (小綠人). I was so entranced by this whimsical little detail while walking the streets of Taipei. The hatted man speeds up and starts rushing when there are only a few more seconds left to cross which is what inspired me to make this.

Here’s a love letter to the charming little green man who stole my heart.
