People look at the heavy barbells, the burning lungs, and the high-intensity sweat and ask why I spend so much time inside a CrossFit box. They think it’s about vanity, or competition, or an obsession with hitting new PRs.

But as a psychotherapist, let me tell you the clinical truth: The gym floor is one of the only places where my mind goes completely silent.

When your heart rate is at 180 beats per minute and you are pushing through a grueling workout, you can’t worry about tomorrow’s schedule. You can’t overthink your parenting gaps. You can’t let anxiety run loops in your head. You are forced into absolute, radical presence.

There is a strange, holy peace that happens when you master your mind through physical discomfort.

It reminds me of 2 Timothy 1:7. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. We aren’t just training muscles here; we are training our nervous systems to handle life’s real, heavy storms without panicking.

This isn’t really about fitness. It’s about finding the steady, internal stillness God promised us right in the middle of a chaotic world.

That’s the difference between performing strong and becoming strong.

In my therapy practice, I’ve sat across from couples trying to figure out how to rebuild connection after years of drifting apart. They are looking for a spark, a shared hobby, or a communication tool.

Honestly? One of the best relational tools I know isn’t found in a clinical worksheet. It’s found on a rubber gym floor.

When my husband and I workout together, we aren’t just sweating… we are actively practicing the exact rhythms required to sustain a healthy, Christ-centered marriage:

👯Shared Discomfort: Moving through a grueling workout teaches you how to suffer well together. It builds a shared resilience.

💪Mutual Encouragement: Cheering each other on when the heart rate is high builds a habit of vocal appreciation outside the gym walls.

😘Ego Invalidation: Dropping weights, catching your breath, and being raw forces radical humility. You can’t hide behind a mask when you’re doing box jump overs.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 tells us that a cord of three strands is not quickly broken. When you invite Christ into your health, and you actively push each other to stewardship of your minds and bodies, your marriage transforms.

Don’t just date to be entertained. Date to grow stronger, steadier, and more rooted together.

Strength beyond the barbell.

That’s the difference between performing strong and becoming strong.

Gratitude is not pretending it was easy.

As a therapist, CrossFit coach, and author writing about emotional pain and spiritual growth, I see gratitude as a grounded return point, not a denial of what hurts.

Some workouts do not leave me feeling inspired. They leave me humbled, tired, sweaty, and aware of how quickly my mind can turn effort into criticism.

But gratitude interrupts the spiral. It’s helping me learn to love the struggle.

Not fake gratitude. Not “everything is fine.” Real gratitude: for a body that carried me, breath that returned, a God who met me in the hard place, and another chance to practice faith with my whole self.

It’s being in the midst of something hard and being able to say “I get to do this because God has enabled me.”

This is part of the message I keep coming back to in Jesus, Help!: healing does not require us to deny pain. It invites us to notice where help, goodness, and grace are still present.

That is what being rooted really means.

Save this if gratitude is helping you return today.

One day you’re trying to get skinny and the next…

Fitness is about SO MUCH MORE than what your body looks like!

This is what I’ve been trying to hammer home again and again.

Because, yes, fitness can change your body… it can make you weigh less, gain muscle, and look better but it can also…

Help you move well into your 70s, 80s, and 90s

Change the way you see yourself and what matters

Teach you life lessons and how to deal with stressful situations

And so much more.

So, while you may be out here only seeing the way a body looks… I’ll be over here changing my life with fitness!

Turns out I wasn’t having a life crisis. I just needed to move by body.

And this isn’t really about fitness.

As a therapist and CrossFit coach, I’ve learned that what feels like irritability, overwhelm, or emotional exhaustion is often a signal that we need an outlet, not more pressure.

The lesson from today’s workout surprised me: strength isn’t just built when the barbell gets heavier. It’s built when we choose movement over spiraling, discipline over excuses, and truth over our feelings.

For me, some of my clearest prayers happen between reps.

When I move my body, I remember that God created me to be strong, capable, and resilient. The workout doesn’t solve every problem, but it helps quiet the noise so I can refocus on what’s true.

Most women think they’re failing when they feel mentally exhausted. They aren’t.

Sometimes your mind needs movement.

Sometimes your heart needs perspective.

And sometimes both need a reminder that you don’t have to carry everything on your own.

That’s why strength starts in your mind.
That’s where faith and fitness meet.
That’s what being rooted really means.

If you’ve ever apologized after a workout because suddenly everything felt manageable again... this one’s for you 😂

🙋‍♀️ Tell me I’m not the only one.

Modeling is louder than lecturing — especially in the middle-school years.

I love a good parenting talk. I really do. My daughter? Less enthusiastic about surprise life lessons in the car line.

But modeling is louder than lecturing.

How I care for my body. How I respond to stress. How I practice faith. How I repair. How I try again when I would rather pretend I am above being humbled by a barbell. How I show up especially on the days I don’t want to.

CrossFit is not the product. It is the practice ground. The real work is becoming the kind of woman, mom, wife, and follower of Jesus I want my daughter to see up close.

That is the difference between performing strong and becoming strong.

Save this if you needed the reminder that your ordinary example matters.
