Every week we try to go to Spa Road. It’s the closest place to us that has some of what we believe is the best produce. The people are kind and we’ve built a special relationship with the people and the arches since we moved to this area in South East London. It was quite emotional showing our butchers Bumi for the first time, showing wonderful Emma and the rest of the crew at the green grocers and of course the fab mushroom forager who recently lost his dog. I think my favourite part was watching how young children and babies reacted to Bumi. Some incredibly sweet moments. I just …yeah … Bumi can really light a space up. It would have been nice to film those moments but tbh it was all too lovely that we just wanted to be present. #bedlingtonwhippet #pup taken in Spa Road by @helmistenberg

Cuddles before crate. Bumi doesn’t whine at night in his crate just gentle sleepy chitchat when he needs a wee. No accidents because he’s a good boy 🫪🤍 by @helmistenberg

Bumi brings out the very best in us. His Nigerian grandpa…well…let’s just say if you have a Nigerian relative you’ll know that dogs are like not a thing…the idea of ‘pets’…yeah forget it! Mum somehow got dad to accept cats and now he’s probably for the first time got seriously close with a pup. It was emotional. It made me so so so so so happy. Simba on the other hand has a little work to do! The cats need a little more time but Bumi is so ready to be friends.
Grandma Sarah was just brilliant, fell into the role seamlessly. Was showing Bumi the garden, running around with him. She made us a lovely lunch and also gave us some French salted butter to take back with us. Cliff also gave us some lovely little pressies. Classic visit to mum and dad! It was special. Also even though Sven @noidmate wasn’t around we went into his room to show Bumi how cool his uncle is! With his awesome collection of records. We love Bedlington whippets! X by @helmistenberg

Bumi the Bedlington whippet, born on the 31st July. How fitting. Kit born in June, Bumi in July and mum Helmi born in August. He’s our golden nugget, our shimmer of moonlight on the surface of the big blue sea, he’s our newest addition to our family. I’m writing this with Bumi cuddled by my side with his cuddly rabbit. 2 and a bit months old and he’s already showing so much of his character. He was the first born out of the litter and I can tell you lol, it shows! He’s the biggest of the pack. Confident but oh so kind and calm. He came from a lovely home, Ellie and Jack are both so kind and a lot of their own character has passed down to the pups. Everyone who has met Bumi has fallen in love with him. He’s a good boy. I think ‘you’re a good boy’ comes out of my mouth minimum 30 times a day now. Even when I’m not saying it out loud I’m saying it in my head. He has transformed our lives for the better. Last video was after our first visit and we’d committed completely to taking him home. On the train back we saw these birds migrating and it felt like a big fat sign. It was a big fat tick to say YES BUMI 🤍 taken in London, United Kingdom by @helmistenberg

Do you remember how it felt when you were finally let out of class and could run out into the playground. Literally bursting with energy and a TA would be shouting in the background ‘slow down you’re going to hurt yourself!’ There weren’t many thoughts going through my head it was just constant signals to my body telling me I MUST move. Years of playing ‘it’ or ‘tag’ oh and bull dog lol but never bored of it. The same exact excitement for playtime every single day for years. How do you try to incorporate that sort of healthy movement in an adults world? A lot of adult sport clubs have popped up over recent years but I feel that there’s something vital missing, or something a little complicated added? Everything is recorded, everything is manicured, curated, spoken about, sponsored and so on…I want to play more. Just play. I think dancing is a great way to do that. I don’t do it enough. I love being in the village where my grandparents live. Everyone is present. Children are still playing, adults too. When you can play freely, you can move freely. When I first went to the village age six there was a little party, I danced with my dad and grandma and soon enough half of the village joined in, we were playing, we were dancing. I can’t tell you how much joy that moment still brings me. It’s a place that goes beyond words. In the very height of that blissful moment it feels like all your desires, needs, wants are met. Either that or they completely vanish and left with something else, something far more powerful. taken in Nigeria by @helmistenberg
