Day 5 — Leaving Serengeti & Into the Ngorongoro Crater 🦏🦩🌿

It was time to leave Serengeti and head towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

As we started driving down into the crater, I was honestly expecting to see a beautiful, calm lake and not much else.

Well… I was very wrong. 😂

We were greeted by a family of baboons, then came thousands of flamingos around Lake Magadi, wildebeest, zebras and…

Hey… RHINO! 🦏

A black rhino just casually appeared in the distance, and I was ridiculously excited. 😂

We also spotted a few warthogs — or as I kept calling them, Pumbas — a very sleepy lion, and so many other animals along the crater floor.

What surprised me most about Ngorongoro was how different it felt from Serengeti. Everything seemed to be concentrated inside this enormous natural crater, with wildlife all around us.

After a full day exploring, we headed to Manyara Escarpment Lodge, our home for the night. Perched on the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the lodge had beautiful views stretching across the landscape towards Lake Manyara.

A completely different scenery again… and a very nice way to end another day in Tanzania.

Day 3 — Northern to Central Serengeti 🐃🌿

We left Northern Serengeti around 7:30am and started our journey towards Central Serengeti. It was quite a long and rocky ride 😅, with a quick stop in Mugumu to check the tyre before continuing our way.

Once we were back in the Serengeti, we headed towards the Mara River. At first, we saw a small group of wildebeest crossing… and then Emanuel took us to another spot.

And suddenly… wildebeest everywhere. Thousands, maybe millions — I honestly couldn’t even tell! 😂🐃

They were gathering along the riverbank, moving back and forth and waiting for the right moment to cross. You could almost feel the hesitation — with crocodiles in the river and predators around, crossing is definitely a risky decision.

Then Emanuel somehow found the perfect spot, and suddenly they started running.

One after another, they jumped into the river, swimming, squeezing for space and making the loudest moo-ing sounds. 😂 I honestly didn’t realise just how much wildebeest sounded like cows!

The crossing went on for around 30 minutes, and watching it unfold right in front of us was something we’ll never forget.

The Great Migration happens throughout the year as the herds follow the rain and fresh grass, while the famous Mara River crossings usually take place around July to October, depending on the conditions each year.

After a picnic lunch, we continued exploring — spotting crocodiles, giraffes and impalas — before heading to Friends Serengeti Camp, where wildebeest were literally roaming around our tents. And to end the day? A beautiful Serengeti sunset. 🌅

Day 2 — Journey into & Entering Serengeti National Park

Left Arusha in the morning, passing through Ngorongoro and slowly making our way into the Serengeti. I was honestly surprised that the roads weren’t asphalt — flat, but definitely a little rocky! 😅 Later, I learned more about how the park manages its roads and vehicle access to help protect its fragile ecosystem.

And then… we entered Serengeti and Emanuel casually said, “Our game drive has started!” 😂

Apparently, a game drive is what they call going out to look for and observe wildlife. And ours started with a radio call from Emanuel: “Looks like we’re going to see a lot of cats today.”

He wasn’t wrong. 😆

Sleeping lion brothers, a pride of lionesses sharing a zebra after a hunt, elephants cooling themselves with mud, then a leopard, hippos, and a cheetah from afar. Every sighting came with a little lesson about how these animals live and how the ecosystem works.

After a picnic lunch, we continued until it was time to call it a day and headed to Kiriche Luxury Camp — our beautiful home for the night, with a spacious tent, lovely views, great food and the warmest team. 🤎

Day 2, and I was already learning that a safari is so much more than just spotting animals. 🌿✨

Leaving Tanzania 🇹🇿 with a heart full of gratitude and memories that we know we will carry with us for a very long time. From the endless plains of the #serengeti to the breathtaking #ngorongoro to the beauty of #tarangire and the charm of #LakeManyara, every place offered something unique.

Witnessing the Great Migration, seeing wildlife in its most natural form, and spending time with the Maasai people and experiencing their timeless traditions made this journey all the more meaningful.

There is so much this incredible land offers- so much to see, learn and appreciate about nature, resilience, culture and the beautiful instinct of survival. We leave with full hearts and the fondest memories of this summer.
