Some days at the studio are ho-hum, but then mornings like this one really bring me that internal spark of contentment that carries me through the day.

It was a full morning of people stopping by, sharing coffee, and connecting. A couple of friends that I don't always get to see, but I sure have loved slowly getting to know over the past few years.

And this dear woman, who let me photograph her last bouquet pickup of this season. She told me how much joy these flowers from her daughter brought her - which is the exact feeling I dream of when putting these flowers on our website in the spring.

So today, I just want to say thanks. Many of you know that I sometimes put a little too much of myself in this business, and take it a bit too personal if it hasn't worked out how I planned. But then, when all the stars align, it sure feels really wonderful to belong to this community. by @henandhare

I've been a little quiet over here - it was a full week of networking and farm tours and brainstorming in Guam.

How fortunate I am to be able to meet with farmers and conservationists from across the US and come back inspired.

One more stop, and I'll be back to enjoy the last bit of summer at home. by @henandhare

We're scaling back on everything this year, including the turkeys. Our only batch (usually there's two) got dropped at the processor this morning.

That means there will be only 40 turkeys available this fall.

If you've ordered from us before, you'll be the first to know when pre-orders open. But if you dilly-dally, there's a good chance you'll miss your chance to get a bird. All of the details will be emailed.

It's a bit weird not having any more birds in the works right now, but it's a nice chance to work on the pasture, and not be hindered by the most curious-but-inept crew. by @henandhare

Our doors are open 10-2pm Wed-Fridays and Saturdays 7:30-10:30am weekly! Jess and/or I are here at the studio working and hanging with the dogs. Come by for fresh eggs, flowers and handmade gifts - free coffee on Saturdays!

PSA - we will be open normal hours Friday 10-2pm but will not be hosting First Friday this week. We will also be closed this Saturday for 4th of July.

Last night, I sat on the patio and watched as three owls swooped from tree to tree, screeching. I saw one drop down into the pasture, maybe upon one of the mice or snakes I saw earlier in the day.

I feel extremely grateful for the landscape that we've curated. It's full of life - beetles and birds, pollinators of all sorts. Nature in all of its imperfect messiness, which lets everything thrive. by @henandhare

Remember all the way back to elementary school, learning about earth sciences and natural cycles and renewable resources?

Plants grow and decay. Rain cycles again and again. Animals fertilize plants, plants feed animals.

Now, apply that to your own landscape.

When you start taking that carbon out of your system, the cycle is disrupted, and the land starts to degrade. When rainfall hits concrete instead of soil, it flows away and leaves the watershed.

It creates an imbalance, which leads to environmental issues on both ends, and opens up the door to quick chemical fixes. Which, of course, leads to an even greater chasm of problems to solve.

Mulch with leaves and lawn cuttings. Compost kitchen scraps and chicken bedding and weeds. Turn weeds into eggs with backyard chickens. Practice water catchment in your landscape. Keep your carbon. And your water. by @henandhare

This is a reminder that we are taking a hiatus from market for a while.

But Egg and I will be at the @littlestudiocollective
Saturday mornings from 7:30-10:30 - with a fresh pot of coffee on, and fresh flowers & eggs in the fridge. Come start your market morning with us 🥚💐☕️

I've dedicated the past 10 years to market on Saturdays, and for a moment, I need to reclaim that energy - and refocus it. This summer, we'll be tackling farmwork, art projects, and maybe even make it camping.

There's a lot on the farm especially that could use some extra attention. We'll be rehabilitating the pasture and improving irrigation, and focusing on better systems overall. Poor Ammon, going from peaceful Saturdays to having a wife putting him to work.

This big shift feels a little surreal, but we're going for it. We do hope you'll stop in to visit the studio. It's a big leap, going from a weekly market to a few extra hours in the shop. We're not halting our production or slowing down - just hoping we can shift our life to better fit managing a farm, our jobs, and feel a little less exhausted. 🩷 by @henandhare

There are so many wonderful mother figures in my life that I'm grateful for - but I'm extra lucky to have this one as my momma. She's my true ride or die, and she's still looking out for me, even 37 years later.

I believe in the "say yes now, and figure it out later" approach to life.

You might not have the next step figured out, but there's time. That's how we're learning and growing and moving forward. Don't let not having every last detail figured out keep you from doing something. It's often that push we need to get serious about working out the rest.

This method has been successful for me in choosing jobs, starting businesses, making friends, and purchasing livestock that I have no idea how we'll load into a trailer in a few months.

But it's gonna make me figure it out. And maybe we won't have to carry sheep one by one into a trailer after this.
