I am so shocked and sad to hear about the sudden tragic death of the musician Glen Hansard. I had the great joy of meeting and photographing Glen at Sundance 2007, and for the film ONCE. So engaged, and a real people person. He seemed to flow comfortably between street performance and stage, and an easy collaborator with so many artists. Nothing fake about this guy, and so pure of heart.
He was taken too soon…. He touched so many. Rest now Glen, your light shines within us all!

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Marjane Satrapi, Iranian writer, artist, filmmaker, activist. A strong voice for women’s rights in Iran and for human rights everywhere. I first met Marjane in 2007 with her film PERSEPOLIS, and photographed her a few times over the years with her other projects.
We hit it off immediately, compared our widow’s peaks and learned we had friends in common as well. Always happy to see each other.She was such a force, and lit up any room she entered. Brilliant, creative, and political; what an amazing, woman. A true original! In announcing her passing, it was written that ‘she died of sadness.’ The world has lost a special treasure.
