My short "26,000 Days" drops 3.20.24 on @directorsnotes I've been fascinated by @tuckersairpatrol's engine-out dance with death since I first saw him perform. We started talking about making an aviation surf film together, and four years later we finally did it. I'm so excited to share this with you, making it was one of the highlights of my career. Thank you to Eric, @sunbeams_lazerbeams_moonbeams, and the incredible team that brought this to life. directed by: @henry.behel edit: @talia.pasqua sound: @emptyseaaudio color: @parkerjarvie music: @sebastianfritze dp: @robrusselldp and me drone: @captainvanoverfpv aerial cam op: @ev.robinson 1st ac: @zackeryrt by @henry.behel

Never thought I’d see a film I directed start with “An Apple Original.” This project checked bucket list items I didn’t even know I had: getting shot off a nuclear powered steam catapult, personally launching an F-18 into the abyss, dinner at the right hand of the strike group admiral, even getting thrown in a brig (for the wrap photo). Thanks to everyone who made this possible, especially the sailors, aviators, and officers of the U.S.S. Nimitz. Project of a lifetime right here. by @henry.behel

“Reading The Wind” DC - Bremont This spot was a magical opportunity to reunite with @tuckersairpatrol and see what he can do with his engine on for a change. Eric’s talent is for practical physics. True mastery of the energy state of the machine. Deep understanding of the wind, the land, and the weather. I watched the mysteries of the natural world to unfold themselves to him. It was deeply inspiring (and a ton of fun). We tried something new this time—handheld aerials, chaotic weather, water on the lens. The world is wild and perfection is boring. Beyond honored to receive "Best of Festival" for 26,000 Days at @5pointfilm in Carbondale, CO! One of my favorite festivals I've ever been to, from the raucous sold out crowds, to midnight dodgeball afterparties, to consistently excellent films. Can't wait for next year. taken in Carbondale, Colorado by @henry.behel

Henry Behel directs ‘26,000 Days’. For most pilots, losing an engine is a life-threatening event. For airshow pilot Eric Tucker, it’s an art form. on #DirectorsLibrary ↗ Filmed in Santa Cruz, CA, United States. @henry.behel by @henry.behel

26,000 Days Link in bio | @directorsnotes premiere Eric Tucker (@tuckersairpatrol) uses flying to become deeply present. The wings are his arms, the controls are his feathers. With the dead-stick of course, but also his low-level flying, he becomes the airplane. I live in my head much more than I’d like. Getting into the cockpit, an entire world of worries melt away. There’s nothing but the humming of the engine, the wind, the way the airplane responds to your every thought. As much as anything is, it’s a meditation. 26,000 Days Link in bio | @directorsnotes premiere I’ve been lucky to spend so much of my life in the air. What a privilege to tell stories like Eric’s that remind me why I fell in love with the sky in the first place. This film is the story of Eric Tucker (@tuckersairpatrol), an aviator who turns most pilots’ nightmare into a beautiful dance. Through flying dead-stick—turning his own engine off and falling out of the sky—Eric confronts the challenge of how to make the most of life and live without regret. I’m beyond grateful to @captainvanover with some of the best FPV flying I’ve ever seen, @talia.pasqua with this soulful edit, @emptyseaaudio for such a spellbinding soundscape, and the rest of the crew that brought this project to life.
