Tone In Motion. BSc (Hons) in Architecture - Sem2, Year 3 2026 Taylor’s University. Subang Jaya Malaysia. by Henry Chai @henry_c31 Set within the layered urban fabric of Johor Bahru’s city core, Tone in Motion reimagines the in-between void not as leftover space—but as a living instrument. Inspired by the gambus, a central instrument in Ghazal performance, the architecture is conceptualized as a sonic body: each element tuned, plucked, and played by its users. Pegs become rotating panels; strings become circulation paths; bridges transmit energy from space to space. The building listens, responds, and evolves like a composition authored by the community. This cultural centre becomes a modular urban living room — a gathering ground where rhythms shift across time. In the morning, the space unfolds into a shaded pop-up bazaar and remix studio. By evening, it contracts into an intimate sonic hall for performances, memory sharing, and experimental soundscapes. Responsive structures—foldable modules, pivot walls, and tunable acoustic panels—allow the space to transform like the tuning of an instrument, adapting seamlessly to the tempo of the day. Beyond preserving heritage, the project reactivates it. Youth-led workshops, digital archives, and interactive listening pods invite younger generations to remix traditional sounds—Ghazal, Joget, tabla, Chinese opera—into new expressions. The architecture acts as a sensory interface, translating memory into experience through light, sound, material, and rhythm. Tune in, not by volume but by presence. Tone in Motion is not a monument to culture, but an open score—where memory, movement, and identity are co-composed in real time. Software used: Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Enscape. #architecturestudents #archirender #convertablespaces #arkitortured #arkigaleri taken in Taylor's University by @henry_c31
