40 years ago today, I started my YTS college course at Langley College in Slough.

Where on earth did those 40 years go?! 😂

A lot has changed since then — these days there’s probably a little more running a company and a little less time on the brushes than I’d like — but I still enjoy the trade every bit as much as I did all those years ago.

Still learning, still fascinated by the craft and very grateful for where it’s taken me.

I suppose after 40 years I can officially call myself an old craftsman now… 🎨😂

That white trim above the sink? Now fully married into the marble. Pattern blending & touch-in work at its finest. No replacement, no disruption—just careful observation and hand-painted correction.
We love these kinds of projects.

Camouflaging and matching fittings.
Hand-painted to disappear seamlessly into their surroundings—stone, wood, marble or wallcoverings.
Because the smallest details should never interrupt the bigger picture. Whether it’s a marble wall, timber panelling or stone, we’re often the last hands in—making everything sit quietly together.

Cherry blossom coming in to bloom in Belgrave Square…
and inside, the season continues.

While the room rests beneath its protective wrapping, Maryam hand-paints branches and blossom across the patinated silver powder room ceiling — bringing a little spring indoors 🌸😊.

Elevate your surfaces with HV’ART Advanced Lacquer Glazes. 🎨

This decorative glaze dries to a soft, semi-matt finish with a subtle sheen - catching the light in some areas while remaining matte in others. The result? Depth, artistry, and a unique layered effect.

For added durability and control over the final sheen, a lacquer topcoat is recommended. Lacquering not only protects your surface but also allows you to adjust the look from soft, honed elegance to a high-gloss statement finish, without losing the glaze’s textured character.

It was great to meet Stuart McDonald this week – one of the true masters of our craft – & to pick up a copy of his new book. The perspective is distinctly British, shaped by the traditions and decorative heritage that have long defined our craft 🎨.

This one will be living on our studio bookshelf alongside all the other classic titles on decorative painting, specialist finishes & murals. @pgfinkel, @julien_gautier_ @amblardpascal, @garywilliammyatt @kevin.mccloud1 #GrahamRust
