On the Cornell 7.

My family's relationship with @cornelluniversity spans more than 80 years. My father graduated in 1942 on a scholarship, working his way through. Three generations of our family have studied there since.

Jane Doe should have had the Cornell experience they did, and a graduation day like theirs.

Cornell admitted its first woman in 1870, nearly a century before Yale and Princeton. Opening the doors was only the beginning. What happens to women once they walk through them matters too.

Loving an institution doesn't mean protecting it from criticism. Sometimes it means expecting more.

The Loews gang, 2000. Swipe to see where Sara is now.

Sara Harper and Emily Goldfischer started out together in hotel PR at Loews. Today she's Head of Marketing at Kohler Hospitality, leading a team of 26 across 37 businesses (hotels, spas, golf, even the grocery store).

Her secret to building a network isn't working the room at conferences. She'll tell you she's terrible at that. It's joining boards, asking for help, and building relationships deep enough that you can just pick up the phone.

His first word after “mama” and “dada” was “más.”

For Melissa Benhaim, raising a bilingual child has meant learning right alongside him, and wondering what happens when his Spanish eventually becomes better than hers.

So she asked three moms who have raised bilingual and multilingual children what actually works.

Their advice? Think beyond vocabulary. Immersion, consistency, family, culture and emotional connection matter just as much.

How long did it take you to become yourself?

For columnist @nancymendelson , the journey involved a few other names along the way: Judy, Nicki, even Robin.

What starts as a funny story about being designated “Nancy 3” in grammar school becomes something much bigger: a reflection on the identities we try on, the people we think we should become, and the relief of finally feeling comfortable as ourselves.

Her latest hertelier column is funny, poignant and wonderfully relatable.

“Turns out, I didn’t need a different name. I just needed time to become Nancy.”

AI guardrails are in the headlines today.

And the debate feels especially timely alongside @nancymendelson latest piece for @her.telier , where she unpacked a bigger question:

What if AI is like fire?

Fire transformed civilization. It warms us, feeds us and gives us light.

It can also burn down your house.

The question may not be whether AI eventually becomes too powerful to control.

It may be whether we have enough wisdom, restraint and responsibility to decide what we should do with it.

Because “we can” isn’t always a good enough reason for “we should.”

Perhaps AI isn’t testing the limits of technology.

Perhaps it’s testing the limits of us.

Jump before you’re ready.

Marcolette Anastasi @marcolettea didn’t take the traditional route to becoming a hotel GM. She came up through finance, was passed over for operational roles, and learned one of the most useful career lessons along the way:

If someone doesn’t see your value, move on.

In our latest Herstory, the Town Hall Hotel GM talks finance, confidence, boundaries, leadership and why women shouldn’t wait until they feel 100% ready for the next move.

What if your first step toward becoming a confident speaker wasn’t a conference stage, but a conversation with someone you trust?

That’s the idea behind Ripples of Impact: The New ROI, a new mini-podcast from Lan Elliott, Craig Sullivan and Dr. Suzanne Bagnera.

The concept is simple: pair Mentors and Mentees for honest conversations about careers, confidence and the people who helped open doors along the way.

Because visibility builds confidence. Confidence creates opportunity. And one opportunity can create a ripple that reaches far beyond one person.

So we want to know: who created a ripple in your career? And whose career are you creating a ripple in now?

What does building a five-star hotel teach you about leadership?

Five years ago, @panpacificlondon opened during a pandemic, in a part of London not known for luxury hotels, as the first European property from a brand few London travellers knew.

Since then, it has earned @forbestravelguide Five-Star status, been selected for @virtuosoltd Travel and won the Best Employer Catey by @thecaterermag

For our latest hertelier story, we went back to five of the women who helped build it: Anne Golden, Kate Ruddick, Claire Gilbertson, Michelle Whittemore and Jennifer Chu.

We asked what those five years taught them about confidence, culture, belonging, being underestimated and leading people.

And there’s a lovely backstory to the photo too: it was taken in 2019, before the hotel existed, and was the very first image used to represent Pan Pacific London. When the hotel finally opened, they brought the same chair out and recreated it.

Five years later, there’s quite a story to tell.
