With so many small businesses closing during the pandemic, it seemed as though the sense of community and support of local entrepreneurs was almost lost, but two Toronto women had a different vision. 💕

Martina Willis and Kana Nagai were entrepreneurs in their own right at the time and after joining forces, they not only created a space for local creators to shine again but also brought back that feeling of togetherness, opening The Trending Table/HER Market. ✨

As co-founders, Willis and Nagai’s goal was to create a small business landscape by serving as a marketplace and media hub. HER Market/The Trending Table hosts pop-up marketplaces, with HER Market providing a platform for women-owned small businesses and The Trending Table for co-ed small businesses.

Vendors can showcase their products and services, while the company’s platforms such as their social media and website serve as a “networking hub, facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing among entrepreneurs, experts, and industry leaders.” 🤝

As The Trending Table/HER Market grew, so did the competition. The Toronto market quickly became oversaturated with new events and organizations, which posed a challenge to standing out. Willis and Nagai faced this challenge head-on, putting in the hard work themselves, managing everything from event curation to marketing and customer service. They were determined to maintain their trust with the vendors and create a sustainable, long-lasting community. 🙌

Today, the Willis and Nagai continue to grow and maintain that trust, hosting pop-up markets all over Toronto.

Looking ahead, the duo has exciting plans, including their 2nd annual HER Network event in March, which will coincide with International Women’s Month. The event will focus on empowering women in business, offering opportunities for networking, connection, and leadership, along with a panel discussion featuring influential female entrepreneurs. 💪

We are still taking in the incredible energy, community, and conversation that filled HAUS OF HER this past Saturday.

We’re so deeply grateful to every woman who walked through our doors ready to connect beyond the surface level—to meet someone new, share her story, exchange ideas, and simply be present in a room filled with women who are building, creating, dreaming, and becoming.

It was an absolute honour to create this space and to witness so many meaningful connections unfold in real time. What happened in this space was something truly special, and we’re only just getting started.
