This awkward looking video of me is from my first studio session. You can see the uncertainty in my face from the first frame. Doubt and fear had completely saturated my mind, and the thoughts inside my head were 100% focused on my own feelings of insignificance and unworthiness. I was convinced that the engineer was gonna be laughing at me as soon as I started rapping.

That was how I felt until I started rapping.

That’s when I realized that I wasn’t there for him, or some hypothetical listener or the person who’s reading this post. I was there to get some shit off my chest, so that’s what I did.

I’m doing this because this is what I need to do to overcome the inside of my own mind. I don’t need a single stream to be validated or vindicated, and if this first song doesn’t help anyone but me I truly don’t give a fuck.

This one’s for me 💪💎

See you all soon 🫡

Now that some time has passed since my first EP, 23 has dropped, I’ve had a chance to reflect a little. It’s still incredible to me that this is real. From the time I had the initial thought of having a project called “23” that tells a little bit of my story, I never thought I would be able to execute it as well as I did. It’s imperfect in the way it needs to be. It’s raw in the way that it needs to be. And it’s beautiful in the way that it needs to be to give you a look inside my mind in that moment in time.

Don’t get it twisted though. This is NOT to say that I think 23 is some kind of masterpiece in the traditional sense. I would understand if the vast majority of people think it’s decent at best. That being said, no one will ever know how well the lyrics reflect my true thoughts and feelings and how much it means to me to be able to listen to these songs and have them take me back to the exact moments they were written in. I’m very aware of the flaws that exist in this project. That’s the point. I want it to sound like an EP that was made by a kid who was unsure of exactly how to express himself. I want it to sound like something that was created out of necessity and not this overly-polished product that’s designed for mass appeal. Most importantly, I want it to sound unwaveringly authentic, regardless of what that sounds like to anyone else. That’s exactly what it is.

I never thought anyone would care, but I still needed to get it out there for anyone who wanted to hear. That’s why I was surprised to have over 1k listeners the first week that So Alone dropped. Seeing the whole thing at over 20k just on Spotify is still unbelievable. I hope each and every one of you who have listened know how much I appreciate you.

I hesitated to post the last 2 slides because it was literally the first time I ever “performed” in front of anyone, but I realized that that’s why I need to post it. Know that if you’re listening to those videos, they are for YOU. Thank you all again, and I can’t wait to share more with you. See you soon. 🖤🫡

I haven’t felt this anxious about releasing a song since So Alone. Sometimes I try to find the right words (and come up short every time) to express how significant it is for me to be releasing any music, let alone the songs that have been released thus far. This is my life, and it’s some of the most painful parts of it being discussed in these songs.

I remember listening to @truth_ali in Don’t Close Your Eyes when I was in high school as I was on the other side of drug abuse. The side that doesn’t get talked about enough; The family member who has to sit and watch the people they love make the same self destructive decisions every day, knowing there’s nothing they can do to change any of it.

More than 10 years later I’m on a song with the same person who helped me through one of the most difficult periods of my life. To me, it’s fitting that the song is about what was going on in my life at that time. I don’t express (or even access) these specific emotions often, so I want you to know as you listen to this, that I left a piece of myself on this beat.

Huge shoutouts to @truth_ali and @_twilight444_ (she absolutely KILLED the vocals) for helping turn this song into reality, and another shoutout to multi platinum producer @djpain1 for making the beat that inspired these lyrics, as well as writing the hook. Another thank you to @rok10_productions for recording, mixing, mastering and guiding me through the process of making such a deeply personal song. Lastly, thank you to my incredible girlfriend for making the song cover. It wouldn’t be the same without each of your contributions, and I’ll always be grateful for you all. 🖤💪

Check it out at midnight EST on 2/27🤞

P.S. Anyone who likes, comments and shares this post to their story can send me a DM and I’ll send you a personal handwritten thank you note. To make it even more interesting, I’ll be writing the note on a photocopy of a page of my notebook that has unused lyrics for this song 👀

It almost feels like it cheapens the message with each time I say “this next song is another one that’s special to me”, but it really is. Each song I release has so much history, depth and truth behind it, and it feels like I’m making a deeply personal part of my life available to the world forever. I believe that stories are all we have at times though, so I feel like it’s our responsibility to share them with each other. This is my next contribution.

Double Vision is a reflection of (a few of) the things I’ve gone through in my life. I learned a lot about myself as I was writing this song, and several times I had to let my notebook sit for months at a time before I’d come back and write a few more lyrics. It was a slow burn because it had to be, and I’m grateful for the fact that I allowed myself to take my time writing it (partly due to the fact that I never thought I’d actually release it, so why not take as long as I needed 😅🤣). It was cathartic writing the last few lines though. I think, even then, a part of me knew this day would come, and I couldn’t be more grateful to myself for finally finding the strength to put this song out into the world.

Tune in for the next chapter of my story on 1/23. I’m infinitely appreciative of everyone who’s been here so far. Thank you all. 🤞🖤

This was a tough one to write. In late 2021, I had just gotten to the point where I made enough money to move out of my mom’s house (with my girlfriend), enough responsibility to not do stupid shit with that money, and enough therapy sessions to know that I needed to get out before I lost my fucking mind.

We found a place nearby, and the night before we moved in, I couldn’t sleep. Guilt, sadness and anxiety drowned out the tiny bit of excitement and relief I felt for us to be moving out on our own. I had to be up for work the next day at 6am, but I grabbed a pen, opened my notebook and wrote until I had nothing left to say. I wrapped up around 1:30am and went to sleep. This song was the result.

If you’ve heard So Alone, you know a tiny bit about the significance of me leaving home. I just wasn’t ready for how it would feel to actually do it. This song puts you right there with me that night as I was trying to process all those emotions. Any questions you may (or may not) still have will be answered when you hear it.

This is more than just music. It’s a part of my story condensed into a wav file. Tune into the next chapter of the story on 12/12.

I never expected this to get anywhere close to this. It still blows me away every day I check and see that people are still streaming So Alone. I don’t take a single stream for granted, and I appreciate all of you that have been playing it from day one and those that are just finding it now. It still gets me excited as hell when I see someone listening as I’m checking the app. This song means more to me than any number of streams ever could, but it’s still wild to see it hit 5k in less than 3 months.

@niekosmusic I appreciate the hell out of you for all the guidance with not just this song, but everything else that I’ve needed advice with as well.

I also don’t shout out @rok10_productions nearly enough for everything they do to turn my ideas into reality. They’re true professionals over there, and I can’t say enough good things about those guys.

One last time I just gotta thank everyone for hearing what I have to say. All the stories people have told me after listening made me realize I waited way too damn long to drop this, and I’m grateful to be able to make a small impact. Until the next one ✌️🖤 by @herbeinnn
