One of the things I’ll always appreciate most about moving from Florida to Maine is getting to experience four distinct seasons. When you come from a place where it feels like summer nearly all year, there’s something really special about watching the world change around you. The anticipation of the first snowfall, the way your town closes and gets settled in for the winter, the quiet roads and slow driving, and the dark evenings spent at home. Even the excitement of “spring” feels different when you’ve spent months waiting for it. I know Maine winters have a reputation, and every time someone romanticizes them, there’s usually a Mainer ready to remind us just how brutal they can be. And I get it. I know the reality isn’t always as pretty as the pictures. But I also think there’s something to be said for seeing a familiar place through someone else’s eyes. Something that typically feels ordinary, inconvenient, or even exhausting to someone who’s known them their whole life can feel pretty extraordinary to someone experiencing them for the first time. These clips are from our first winter here, when everything was brand new to us; and while the novelty may eventually wear off, I hope I never stop appreciating the privilege of watching the seasons come and go. There’s beauty in a place that asks you to live a little differently throughout the year and I’m looking forward to slowing down with it again ❄️ . #lifeinmaine #maine #mainewinter #seasonalliving #mainelife by @hercoastalera

How fragile everything is. . I was putting my daughter down for a nap when I heard a loud thud against the window pane. The little sparrow spent her last moments in the palm of my hand. . And somehow, in the middle of an ordinary afternoon, motherhood became a conversation about life, death, and how gently we should hold all living things. . #maine #motherhood #mementomori #nature #birds by @hercoastalera
