Finishing something isn’t about reaching perfection.
It’s about recognizing a moment.

When that moment reflects the chapter you’re in.

All while being honest with your materials
the paint, the brush,
the abilities you actually have right now.

You don’t finish a work when it’s “ready.”

It becomes finished
when you are.

One of the things I love most about making work is how it pulls people in, how it creates space for conversation, interpretation, and meaning.

This piece marks the end of a long chapter for me.

And as I step into the next one, I’m curious how others are naming their own year.

If you had to sum up 2025 in a single word or short phrase, what would it be?

I’ll start: REALIGNMENT

Maven in her puffer 🩷 I’ve been working on this on and off for months. I’ve really been struggling with the whole idea of creating content lately when that isn’t what I enjoy about painting… in fact… quite the opposite. I love painting because of where my mind goes when my hands get busy and I stop thinking about the present, the action, the everything in the right here and now. Instead I paint to get lost, to think in circles until I get shot out the other side. To be so focused I forget to blink for 30 mins, to be so focused I forget to drink water all day, to be so focused I don’t eat until 4pm in the afternoon… to get lost in it… not to stop and change camera angles every 15 mins… anyway… just needed to get that off my chest… I love sharing with you all… but I’m working on figuring out MY WAY to share… not what the influencer handbook says. Maybe that means we won’t ’go viral’ but atleast it’ll feel like myself… I’m a work in progress.. but this painting is complete 🩷🙏

One day outside of John’s shop in Denver, he noticed a scene that stopped him in his tracks.

Alex, an unhoused man described to me as the “Black Wolverine,” was kneeling on the sidewalk, gently washing the feet of a woman.

She had painful sores on her feet, and the only supplies at hand were a plastic bag and hand sanitizer. John brought out chairs so they could sit more comfortably. Alex never stopped what he was doing. His hands moved slowly, carefully. The world kept moving around them, but for those minutes, the sidewalk became a place of care and dignity.

As so many of these stories do, Alex’s ended too soon. Weeks later, he passed away from an overdose on that same sidewalk. Yet the simple, powerful gestures he offered still ripple outward and act as a quiet reminder that the smallest acts of kindness continue to inspire long past the time we share in this life.

This painting is my attempt to hold on to that moment and carve it into stone. To me, it’s a reminder that connection is not bound by circumstance, but built in the small, human acts we offer one another when nobody’s watching.

Rest Easy Alex 🩶 The Black Wolverine 🕊️

People’s Portraits No. 5 —
.
Ok, you can’t fault me for including MY family in this series can you? ;) I can’t even write a caption about you without welling up. Our little baby is a full grown girl folks… watching her light up with her baby sister, building forts, and run like lightning around the house… Life just has an entirely different color to it now that you’re here.

This series has already made me cry, smile, and laugh. Sitting with each photo gives me space to reflect—on who you are, who I am, and the people we hold close. It’s been such a joy and an honor to illustrate you and your loved ones.
.
If you’d like to be part of the People’s Portraits series, feel free to DM me your photo(s). I’d love to hear a bit about the people in them, too.
.
Thank you for sharing your stories with me.
