She danced. How she moved. She put her hand and her heart together and something felt better. She knew she could take this feeling further. The moment would go out into the world with her. She was no longer alone. At least that’s how it felt. Then it clicked. She had feelings. She let go of a big breath up to the sky. She could feel. That was new. And it felt warm, good and kind of ok to be on the planet. Even if she had more to discover. She was bold. Something she suspected from the start.

She climbs. She greets the new day. Things look different. It’s rough underfoot. Still she moves. And opens her eyes. What does she see.

She thinks. It will all work out. She lights up. She knows being all she is doesn’t have to mean people get to call her by name. #story #film #edinburgh #missing #fiction #travel #writersofinstagram #instanovel #bluesky #herlastgasp #poem #poetry #prose #audio #radiotheatre #theatre #scotland by @herlastgasp

She woke up. Alone. In the car. And discovered how far she had come. And in that moment knew her own personal journey had begun. #story #instanovel #author #writer #thelockdown #isolation #quarantine #edinburgh #film #blackandwhite #edfringe #festival #theatre #fringe #herlastgasp #edinburghfringe #corona #stacey #missing #fiction #flashfiction #community #joy #love #spilledink #poetry #prose #journalism #amwriting #writersofinstagram by @herlastgasp

The sun stuns her so she runs and loses grip as her heart rips. The distant jugglers in the market square drop the chainsaw they have in the air cut the cable and land with a bang. The cobbles catch their fall as she stands grateful for the sunshine the makes her look clean. The bag she carries has so little to shield her from life. There is a silver 50 pence coin in her hand and she knows she must live on her wits until her memory comes back. She cannot afford to trust another man or buy a coffee. She thinks back to the last time she drank coffee in the McDonalds on Princes Street. The plastic coffee stirrer still stuck in her pocket. Her phone had been left there and her coat. She had to risk being arrested for eating left over food and go back. The man who had followed her through town wouldn’t be there. She hoped. She worried for the boy who had ran after her. Then amongst the crowd she heard the voice again. Stacie! He was on to her. Through the crowd, past the juggler, under the flames and under the stilt walker she found her escape. Her heart told her to trust no one and her head still searched for a plan before the fringe performers took over every corner of the city. And that was happening fast.

The daily newspaper reported a rising water table made firth of forth bridge rusty and now threatened to take away the last bit of safety she held dear in the little shacks by the railway station.
The water fell and fell and all around her dwelled a dark boggy scent of something that wouldn’t change for her and the boy. Water congregated around their feet all up and down the Royal Mile where the richest girl had lost it all.
After the explosion the next step forward had been washed away.
The news story mentioned depleting ozone from fresh forest fires in Norway causing global warming.
The trees that had come every year to the Christmas parade had been less and less each year and now she saw why.
She wondered how close Christmas was.
Right now she couldn't even tell you what street she stood in or what country was home.
The global warming story had started a long time before the media got their hands on it and there was a conspiracy to hide the truth and only the girl knew what was real.
If she only half remembered what had happened she would at once be the most wealthy and most hunted face in the country. #story #vss #novel #fiction #writersofig #amreading #amwriting #author #Edinburgh #scotland #art #video #spokenword #poetry #herlastgasp #blackandwhite #words #adventure #travel #weekend #love by @herlastgasp

As does the early morning return her to the frozen state she had been running from. She would have to trust a stranger.
