Journey to the Oracle — London
Oct 10 – Nov 15 @wilhelmina_s__
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The Venus of Riegsee. Gravettian, Upper Paleolithic, circa 22,000 BC, speculative.

Universal Venus is a series born between databases and dreams. It begins with an archive of prehistoric Venus figurines, developed in dialogue with archaeologist, a gathering of bodies excavated from deep time. Their measurements, materials, and mythologies become raw code, translated into the digital space where patterns blur and new anatomies emerge.

Created locally with open-source, copyright-safe AI models, the archive unfolds into a multitude of speculative Venuses. These are not replicas, but descendants, hybrid figures carrying echoes of ancestral gestures, reimagined through the soft distortions of machine learning. Each one receives a fictive origin, material, date of discovery, a time before time. They form an archaeology of the possible, ritual objects from parallel timelines.

The Venus of Riegsee is one such apparition, traced to the shores of a glacial lake in the Bavarian Alps. The hips swell with symbolic gravity, the torso resolves into a central ridge, a sign of intimacy preserved in abstraction. The stone itself, chosen for its mineral resemblance to imagined conditions, bears a quiet weathering, as if lifted from subterranean sleep.

Rematerialized in stone, the virtual body returns to the world of touch. It stands as a relic of futures that never happened.

This speculative data sheet serves as the work’s Certificate of Authenticity and accompanies the physical sculpture.

Thinking about Léa Lublin’s performance « My Son » (1968) in which she brought her seven-month-old son into the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and cared for him there. By making her everyday life with her son the work itself, Lublin questioned the boundary between art and life, while making the often-invisible labour of motherhood visible within the museum. She also challenged the idea that a woman has to choose between being an artist and a mother @artistsandmothers by @herminebourdin

A film by @hervemartindelpierre_hmd, inspired by the digital collection of @herminebourdin, "Under the Moon" is a film conceived as an experience to be lived as much as it is to be watched.

At the crossroads of cinema, performance, and light, the project explores universal themes: the body, transformation, and femininity, through a sensitive and immersive form.

With "Under the Moon", @kiritosu.studio affirms its mission: developing projects that move between film, installation, and events, ranging from more intimate forms such as "Under the Moon" to larger-scale projects like "Time of the Nice Aunties" with @niceaunties.

The ambition is clear and constant: to bring these stories to the widest possible audience, and to turn emotion and discovery into shared experiences that resonate well beyond the art world.

Thank you to @right_clicksave and @louisjebb for this exchange around "Under the Moon" and the way cinema, television, Web3, and art can now come together in new and meaningful ways.

I was deeply happy to present the film in London, at the Brunel Museum, a place whose walls felt lunar, cavernous and timeless. Their texture and curvature echoed the surface of the moon and created an exceptional setting for the projection, allowing the images to breathe and resonate with the space itself.

The film talks about a work that began with a large sculptural figure, around two metres high, inspired by Paleolithic Venus forms. This figure stood as a silent presence, carrying references to ancient knowledge of the body, matter, and transformation.

Opposite it, an Opéra dancer entered the space and responded to the sculpture through movement. By inhabiting the same form in her own body, she activated the figure, extending it into time, breath, and physical presence. What had been static became something lived and unfolding.

Rather than closing this encounter, the film by @hervemartindelpierre_hmd stays with the friction between stillness and movement. Shown at the @brunel_museum this tension found a natural echo in the architecture itself, inviting the viewer to experience sculpture not as a fixed object, but as something that can be momentarily alive.

Many thanks to @ledger & @operadeparis for the presentation. Big thanks to @kiritosu.studio for the production @hervemartindelpierre_hmd @jmpailhon

It was a real pleasure to share this special screening in London at the Brunel Museum.
After its premiere in Berlin last June, sharing this immersive work in such a unique space felt particularly memorable 🌙

Under the Moon

I can’t even begin to process what I’ve seen tonight.

I have the pleasure of seeing incredible art in my role at @lumen_prize, but this piece tonight really brought me to tears. What a pleasure it was to witness @herminebourdin’s work first-hand at @brunel_museum.

As a woman, you can always tell when women are at the heart of the work created and even before the credits launched, I could see the familiar, beautiful choreography from @aniacatherine and @operator_______.

This piece made me feel so many things as a woman in all our glorious forms, this work is so important; it’s not about the technology - it’s about the human, the feminine and the core of what it means to simply exist.

To witness this work first hand was a true honour.

Thank you to the wonderful @herminebourdin (a true inspiration to us alll!) and to the wonderful @hervemartindelpierre_hmd jmpailhon for making this evening possible. Just wow. Blown away.
