This is my homie Joey and today is his birthday.

I met Joey through skateboarding and our shared love of punk rock. He’s a founding member of our legendary fictional band The Fart Boys and if you’ve ever wondered why I look so good, it’s because this dude is also my barber. He’s one dude I know I could hit up to go to any show and he’s likely down.

Last fall he found out he had testicular cancer. It was a scary time for him, his family, and friends. Luckily with advances in cancer research Joey is here to see another birthday. I’m glad to call him a friend and even more stoked to call him a survivor.

Joey is on my list of people I ride in Pelotonia for. If you can please donate to my ride, any amount helps and is appreciated.

This is my grandpa. The kid on the right making a dumb face is me.

We probably have about a million pictures of me making faces but not nearly enough of him. That’s probably because he was always behind the camera, making sure every family gathering and milestone was documented.

I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with him growing up. He was a breakfast and grill master, had an endless supply of goofy jokes, and sang the silliest songs. To this day, I have no idea if he learned them somewhere or just made them up as he went.

He was also the grandpa who would gladly do all the things our parents didn't want to do like spending the day at Discovery Zone or taking us to see the Power Rangers Movie. He told us the Pink Ranger was his favorite. My cousin and I teased him for that, now as an adult I see what he meant.

Aside from the fun he also shared lessons in financial responsibility and set an example to always take care of your mom. Him and his brothers always made sure Grandma Minnie was taken care of. It may have taken me longer than I’d like to admit to apply those lessons, but I like to think he’d be proud of the person I’ve become.

When I was young, my grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer. I didn't fully understand how serious it was at the time, but thankfully surgery gave us many more years with him. Then, years later, the cancer came back. Every time I visited him, I convinced myself it would turn out like it had before. Unfortunately, this time it didn't. In 2011, we lost him. Being in the room surrounded with the people he loved while he passed is a moment that will stay with me my entire life.

My grandpa is one of the biggest reasons I ride in Pelotonia. I hope that one day cancer is fully curable, so kids don't have to lose their grandparents, parents, siblings, or friends earlier than they should.

If you're able to donate, I'd truly appreciate it. Even $5 or $10 helps me get closer to my fundraising commitment. Best of all, 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to The James Cancer Hospital to fund life-saving cancer research.

This is my grandma. The nerd next to her is my brother; don’t mind him.

We lost our grandma to cancer in 2016. A decade without her and we still feel that loss in our family.

Growing up she was always keeping up with us grandkids, playing yard games, riding bicycles, etc. She remained active and maintained a relatively healthy lifestyle. Yet this terrible disease took her from us. Cancer does not discriminate; it can affect anyone.

Her passing was my biggest motivation for getting involved with Pelotonia in 2017. I truly believe in their mission, to end cancer. 100% of the funds raised go directly to the James for cancer research.

I’m committed to raising $1,250 this year with a stretch goal of $2,785. Hitting the stretch goal will put me at $10,000 total raised, seems fitting as it’s been 10 years since we lost my grandmother.

Any small amount helps. If you have the means, please consider donating to my ride. I appreciate any help I can get, you’ve all helped me so much up until this point.

I’ve had my eyes on the Fernandes Vertigo since probably 2008 when I saw a guitarist in a local band playing one. Specifically it had to be orange. Always had a hard time finding them, if I did they were beat to shit or at a time where it’d be financially irresponsible to pull the trigger. I came across this one in Knoxville (coincidentally the location of another coveted guitar I obtained) and @whitneyr9387 agreed to risk being the topic of a murder podcast to pick it up off marketplace. It worked out, she ended up working with the guy, it was fate. Finally after months of waiting I got it. I’ve never seen a guitar this old in this condition. So thankful to Whitney for being a true homie and snagging this one for me. #fernandesvertigo by @herooftheweek

It takes a lot to pull me away from Nordecke for a match but last night was well worth it. Spent the evening in the party deck with one of my childhood best friends and his family. It always brings me a lot of joy getting friends into @columbuscrew and teaching them the songs and chance of my favorite club. Thanks for the hospitality @grahamc051987 can’t wait to do this again… in Nordecke of course! by @herooftheweek
