It’s good to be alive and notice things. So I make.
With soft pastels, acrylic, sculpture, stop motion, fabric, whatever interests me.

POSTS STORIES REELS

I’ve been working on this one slowly over October, plus a few other little bits. I recorded some but can’t seem to get myself to share them. You know, the nagging voice in the background saying it’s not cinematic enough blah blah blah. Anyway, this one’s fun! Representing our little library ❤️

First time making fabric or food with soft pastels. I’m happy with how it turned out. Cherries always remind me of summer in Oregon, Hood River cherries, red fingers, my big kids were still little kids. Life is fast and slow all at once.

I wanted to make something fast, scratchy, and vibrant. This is where we landed! What do you think?

Finished this #pleinair piece today and I love it! It’s also huge and I was absolutely covered in pastel dust 😅 Tomorrows the day! Collectors get to view and purchase pieces and ribbons are awarded. We’ll see how it goes!!

Only one more day of painting before I have to turn in my final pieces. I’ll share a poll tomorrow with all of the options, so you can vote your favorite as a competition piece! Also… roses are hard 😂😂 my first attempt. #rosespainting #softpastels #floralart #softpastelpainting #pleinair @ampersand_art @earthberrypastels.eng @rembrandtartistpaint @richesonart by @herwildstudio

This is my 3rd day painting outside. Ever. I was a little nervous. I came to a forested park at about 8 am. A few cars were in the parking lot. No people around. Except some dude just sitting in a running car. It was my only baby-free window today so I battled the question of do I drive away or stick it out with some risk. I decided to stay. Stay aware of my surroundings, stay present with what was in front of me, stay with that little voice in my head saying this isn’t safe. I hate that feeling. I wish for everyone to always feel and be safe.

Anyway, here’s plein air soft pastel painting number 4. It’s not my favorite. I was shivering (forgot my coat), crouched on the path (didn’t feel comfortable fully sprawling), and racing a rapidly rising sun. And that’s ok! Every rep counts towards becoming who you want to be, even if it’s not ideal. #softpastels #pleinairmag #softpastel #sunrisepainting #landscapepaintings @lightwish_official @earthberrypastels @ampersand_art @richesonart @rembrandtartistpaint by @herwildstudio

Plein air piece number 3! I wanted to paint this Ghibli esque little library with a big fall tree growing over it. And I left my 12 year old’s chatter in because real life. I don’t know about you, but every art medium I see, I want to try it. Animating with Ghibli (like, let’s move to Japan and get to work at the studio), stop motion, sculpture, building miniature sets, painting, etc. Anyone else?

This is my second plein air festival piece. I’m viewing it as a study because I want my final piece to be big! So I’m testing different locations and vibes to see what feels right. What do you think of this one? We successfully painted the light and I just added my own take on the colors. #pleinairpainter #softpastels #skypainting #softpastelart #landscapepaintings by @herwildstudio

Every time I see a nasturtium, all I can think about is how they look like floating lily pads growing out of cracks in the ground. It’s like a Ghibli movie where you’re walking along doing normal people things and thinking normal people thoughts, and then you see it. You stop. All thoughts evaporate except this tiny feeling that magic must be real and you’re staring it at with your own eyes! I love nasturtiums.

I needed something light and alive and magical, and these dandelions were it. Wherever the wind takes you is about taking a big calming breath, jumping into the sky, and letting the wind whisk you off on a grand adventure! All the while little bits of you can be found in every chapter you pass through.

What do you think of this one?

I could spend all day in this spot, it’s actually right down the street. I snapped a photo on a walk home, and it reminds me of peace and hope and taking risks and safety. What does it remind you of? I’m also continuing my mini canvases! 14 left. I had to pause for a moment because my train painting was accepted into a local exhibit/competition, and I needed to prep it. Woo!
