As we move into the final week of our @menopausethemusical_au tour, I want to acknowledge how grateful I am for these women.

Joining a cast is interesting. A box of chocolates, if you will. Strangers thrust together to work closely & intimately with one another, travel, work & exist in each-other’s pockets for a moment in time.

You ask yourself upon meeting on day 1; Will we gel? Will we work well together? Will they get me? Will I get them? The answer is ‘no, not always’, and that’s ok. It’s work. Your job is to show up as your best, professional self & deliver. However, sometimes, you get really lucky & the answer is ‘YES!’. In this case, the latter has won out. Big time.

Touring is challenging & can be psychological warfare some days. Things happen at home. Mental, physical & emotional fatigue etc. But this show has been my saving grace during this season of my life. It has been my daily go-to. A stable & reliable source of purpose and joy, & that has largely been to do with my cast mates & crew.

Since August, we have performed in 7 different cities in over 60 shows & to thousands of audience members whose lives we have left a little lighter & brighter come curtain. We have worked bloody hard, battled illnesses, personal challenges & yet, despite those, have still brought the heart & the laughs. We have supported each other all the way & I couldn’t be more humbled to have shared a season of my life on & off stage with these kind, caring, bloody funny and talented women.

I have learnt so much from them. I have watched & studied the way each of these artists have approached their character, the songs, the text & the truth that they bring to the stage in every performance. I am a better actor because of them.

Women need women. Fact. And while I’m already mourning our daily togetherness, I know I have their friendship & support for life, as they do mine.

Thank you, Sally, Lena, Chels and Hester for allowing me the opportunity to create new & wonderful memories around this show. You have no idea how much I appreciate you.

Ladies, we MADE IT!

Yesterday we said goodbye to our sweet boy Ginsburg (named after Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg) our prancy prince, the furry beating heart of our home. He fought his cancer stoically and we enjoyed over a year with him post-diagnosis for which we feel incredibly fortunate, but yesterday he let us know it was his time to go. We were both with him at home as he went peacefully over the rainbow bridge whilst listening to reggae. Burgie, Burgle, Boogoo, Boogoo-pants was such a gentle, friendly boy, always looking for new friends. He loved his walks in Centennial park and introducing himself to absolutely everyone on his path. He loved going to the French markets at the EQ and would insert his long snoot into any unsuspecting hand for pats. He loved his greyhound friends and lying contentedly on his rug as the humans drank coffee. He loved his next door Randwick neighbours and digging in the yard with their spaniel, Winter. The last few months in Leichhardt he was able to enjoy his own courtyard, to come and go outside as he pleased and to sleep under the stars. It has been truly one of the greatest privileges of our lives to have gained the trust of this beautiful, gentle soul and to be his pawrents. We are eternally grateful his paws landed in our home. It’s so quiet without your frosty face and clicky nails Burgie. We will miss and love you forever. Run free now, sweet boy.
