Hello and welcome to all our new followers!

I thought it was time to properly introduce myself and share what this little corner of the internet is all about.

I’m Heather (Hev), a parent, qualified practitioner , SEND advocate, and community supporter with a passion for helping families feel informed, empowered, and less alone.

My biggest inspiration is my amazing son, Oscar, who is autistic , adhd, complex high care needs and non-verbal. Through our journey, I’ve experienced the highs, the challenges, the victories, and the moments that can leave families feeling overwhelmed. Those experiences have fuelled my passion for advocacy, inclusion, and raising awareness.

Taking in all the little moments life lately has been a lot. There’s been a lot of fighting against the broken system and sometimes that takes you away from everything you love and sometimes even that you love Who Are in the same home as you so today we took time to be a family for me to be a Mum and just be and that was priceless. Mummy did it bear all for you 29 days of why is there no Transport in place for his return in September? Why are we still waiting as we approach the October half term? This has been something going on in the background that we have been fighting this since June 2026 and we got there. It’s taken everything I know every educated route. I know my advice for future reference to anyone don’t mess about with these offices go straight to the top, go straight to your chief executive of children services that’s where I found my answer but anyway my boy has a Transport back as of Monday morning, he’s got his route he’s got his PA and we did it #schooltransportation #humanrights by @hevscommunitycorner

Today, my beautiful autistic little boy asked for a yellow balloon.

Then he told us he wanted more water.

No, the words weren’t spoken.

But he communicated.

He told us what he wanted.
He told us what he needed.
And we understood him.

To some people, a yellow balloon and a drink of water might seem like the smallest things.

To us, they are everything.

Seven years of finding his way to communicate with the world around him and today his voice was heard without him having to say a single word.

Communication doesn’t have to be spoken to be powerful.

Pretty sure this song was written for every SEND parent.

The parent who wakes up every single day ready to advocate for their child.
Who keeps fighting through a broken system, no matter how exhausting that fight becomes.

Because the fight comes from something deeper the fire inside them to make sure their child is seen, heard, understood and given the support they deserve.

They get tired. They get knocked down. But they never give up.

That fire always burns bright. ❤️‍🔥

For our children. Always.

October is ADHD Awareness Month 💙

This month means something very personal to me because ADHD is part of my son’s story.

His mind doesn’t always move through the world in the way people expect. Sometimes it’s busy, fast and overflowing with thoughts. Sometimes things that look simple from the outside take an enormous amount of effort. And sometimes that same mind notices details, makes connections and sees possibilities that others might miss.

ADHD isn’t simply “not concentrating” or being naughty, lazy or difficult. There is so much happening beneath the surface that other people never see.

I chose this photo because it reminds me of that: a thousand reflections, all catching the light differently.

I’m still learning how best to understand, support and advocate for my son never to change who he is, but to help him thrive as himself.

This ADHD Awareness Month, I hope we can replace judgement with curiosity, criticism with understanding, and assumptions with compassion.

Different doesn’t mean less. Different minds shine differently. ✨

I’m in a space where I’m actually done with fighting. Done with advocating.

And even admitting that out loud feels frightening.

If you’ve been here from the start, you’ll know the advocate I am the advocate I have been.

I was fierce. I was loud. I was a lioness. I would come for the system for my son, and for every child who needed someone to fight for them.

But right now, I feel beaten.

I’ve been in the disability world, advocating, for over 19 years. And right now, it feels the hardest I have ever known it.

But I’m realising that sometimes, to be the best I can be for my child, I need to pause.

To reflect.
To regroup.
To be present.

Because sometimes advocating for our children takes us away from simply being their mum.

And I’m tired.

So, for now, I’m choosing to stop fighting.

I’m choosing to be present.
I’m choosing to be his mum.

And that is my choice. One I’m allowed to make without guilt or explanation.

Maybe the lioness will roar again.

But right now, she needs to rest.

And she jump straight back up because she wanted to know beause she needed to she had to she had a little boy that unfortunately couldn’t use his voice so that voice she had to shout even louder for it to be heard.

We’re now sitting on 25 days without local authority Transport the Oscar has been awarded and many other children in this city are entitled to and I was thinking the same thing for some reason this local authority think it’s acceptable not to put anything in place whilst we’re waiting for the provision that I needed for him and that’s just not okay it’s not okay for him and it’s not okay for many other children that are suffering in the city and I know of multiple families that are waiting for Transport and Immultiple families that are being failed on the EHCP levels multiple families that have just been neglected use that word let’s use it fiercely. I’m not scared to use it. You are failing and neglecting children and it is a safeguarding issue within this city and I say Now is enough and I say it’s time to march with those families to get the answers that they are rightfully deserving of but right now are just being ignored so it’s time to pull my big girl pants up and let’s stop crying and let’s start doing
