Testing the P90 active hum cancelling system on hi gain sounds.

Noise gate is turned OFF to show the hum levels with the system turned off and on.

One idea i developed for this guitar is an active hum cancelling system focusing on being as transparent to the sound as possible.

There are two small holes in the pickguard containing two trim-pots which are used to null out the hum.

Here - testing the clean sound with the system turned ON and OFF. There is no audible difference in hum yet, needs more gain to show up.

High gain test will be topic for the next post.

Trying to make a razor sharp harsh distortion sound using the Notch filter, octave up and the drone synth.

The Drone button captures the current frequency and starts the drone. Holding it down turns the drone off. Volume can be adjusted with one of the stacked knobs. Using the normal guitar output Volume knob + Drone Volume i can mix both signals in any ratio. by @hexe_fx

Among many other tweaks and changes i decided to swap the laser proximity sensor (yellow plate in the top corner) to a 2 axis gamepad joystick.

Reason? That laser sensor was too sensitive. To the point my beard was randomly triggering the TREMOLO 🤦‍♂️

NOMAD Guitar Project update.

The drone sound, normally triggered by a button + natural string pitch frequency is also a synth, including the ADSR envelope control. Can be played by feeding MIDI data, either via the DIN5 MIDI jack or via USB (guitar shows up as MIDI interface).

While working on it i had this idea: why not dedicate one of the channels for a perfectly synced and shaped with Note On + Note Off Killswitch option. This opens up many new possibilities: syncing the pauses to a song, creating many different patterns as simple midi files played into the instrument. Note On works in reverse, sending it mutes the sound, sending Note Off unmutes the output. Makes editing the patterns in DAW very quick&easy.

NOMAD Guitar Project

The box at the back contains the main power source for all the electronics : large 10000mAh power bank providing efficient high current power rails for the digital part and low noise power for the analog sections.

The keypad has 8 illuminated keys:

P1 - P4 -> 4 quick access presets

F1 -F2 -> configurable function buttons like Tap tempo, play a sample, turn on/off additional effects.

Display: small touchscreen used for configuration and a built in chromatic tuner. There are small screens everywhere in the Cyberpunk2077 game, often scrolling a red text or code. To mimic it i've added an optional screen saver with ASCII art message.

NOMAD Guitar Project:
The last piece of built in effects section will be the

Vinyl Scratch Engine

based on 4 seconds sample buffer, variable forward/reverse speed playback and a few other tricks.

This is the 1st preliminary sample, implementation still needs more work and fine-tuning.
Tested with a knob - reacting to rotation speed, not the actual position. Not sure yet which way this effect will be controlled. The XY pad seems to be the best choice for quick access while playing.

Even at this stage it's lot's of fun :)

Pedal Power Meter - tiny yet very useful small tester module.

Plugged between the power supply and the pedal measures the voltage and the current consumption of the pedal (or series of daisy chained pedals), all with 16 bit resolution.

Onboard low dropout reverse polarity protection and a voltage dropout detection. A warning message is displayed If for any reason (ie. overload) the voltage drops under 7V. Voltage drops might cause instability in the current hungry digital pedals.

Might be really handy tool to troubleshoot power related issues while building pedalboards.

Going to release it as open source/hardware project soon. by @hexe_fx
