Believe in the reality of Late Summer standing alone in the crowd, perhaps dressed as a panda like this guy here shot by Henry, who has some marvelous poems in this issue as well. HEQ No. 22 is in the shop and the mail now, and I’m hoarding copies for @punkrockfleamarketseattle Sept 20! Front cover collage by @cassidy.jn who also curated some books for the store with a list here. Stunning student portfolio from CUNY Queens College prof Jamie Cohen’s students far exceeded our expectations, which were admittedly no ceilings. @philipfrobos on rock. Poems @ruben4real @sashasarene @terdledove & Courtney Heidorn. Recipe by regular Joe, book report by shopkeeper extraordinaire Matt Olsen, art by @pattern.machines who has cool books and magazines in the shop, and some bonus surprise secret upside down smut even. Dive in. Subscription on Big Cartel, 4 issues a year for $20, international rate varies but is doable, dare to support Big Postal. by @hexenductionbooks

🌳🌳🌳UPDATE: Ruth had to drop off the bill so it’s just Abbey Blackwell playing. 🌳🌳🌳We’re hosting a little music Wednesday come through, starts at 6, plenty of refreshments and the AC is back. Free. All ages. Ruth Davidson plays in Moraine and has a tremendously creative and gorgeous cello record out @lithicrecords. Abbey Blackwell is a musical genius and local music teacher and her songs come as flower seeds with a download which is an apt metaphor for the depth and range they take us through. Here see the making of the poster and its ultimate post realization. by @hexenductionbooks

Facing Death: Poems by @ruben4real is the juicy fruit of a long form poetry transfer - I’ve been obsessed with his poems and asking for more so Ruben sent me (Gabi) a decadent quantity of poems for obsessive reading and planning to create this book shaped proof of life and its counterforces.

Hex Enduction Books is proud to share HEB004 featuring cover art by the author @ruben4real designs by @bjorsetcreative and printing by Maple Press.

Hex Enduction is proud to present @ruben4real’s debut poetry collection FACING DEATH, the fourth release from Hex Enduction Books. These poems are dazzling in an everyday way. HEQ readers will be familiar with Ruben Mendez’s unique outlook but most of this work is being shared for the first time here. Preorder now on our Big Cartel or come to the launch party - it’s a Valentine’s matinee because these poems are romantic as death. Release date is Feb 3. Thanks to @bjorsetcreative for the cover design and to @ruben4real for the art and the work of making this collection, which has felt like beachcombing for candy on life’s broken glass beaches. Reviewers and booksellers hit me up for an advance copy! taken in Hex Enduction Records & Books by @hexenductionbooks

We’re making @joshua.okrent the face here even though he told Dean in his interview in HEQ #20 — which is in the mail, shop & at the @punkrockfleamarketseattle today — that he doesn’t want to be the physical manifestation of the grand idea of $1 entry DIY goods exchange. We have @crispyham wrapping this issue in a texture that perfectly suits the atmospheric river we’re afloat in. We have poetry galore including a sneak peak at Feb @hexenductionbooks release FACING DEATH by @ruben4real. Plus @samurkhouja @thekatyball @sashasarene Matt Wise & me (@terdledove). It’s a bumper crop of favs and regulars so feast away on its recipes (Suzie Strait & Aaron Schroeder) and scattered life shots @jensen24tjhung, Yellow Green Red music listening newsletter origins with @mattkorvette & more more more more more till the tiniest wafer explodes you like New Year’s fireworks over the space needle. Subscribe at our Big Cartel and ponder next issue’s theme, ingeniously provided by future contributor @theedouglasmartini : Art on an Artist’s Own Terms. by @hexenductionbooks
