Mary Borden was a force of nature.

Growing up with the odds stacked against her from childhood, she became a beauty salesperson before her entrepreneurial spirit and artistry gave way to her biggest chapter: the start of her business, Borden Borders. My grandmother handcrafted custom picture frames, and her work was recognized in newspapers, earned four U.S. patents, and even attracted interest from Hallmark.

Some of my earliest memories are inside her home, building blanket forts out of her living room sofas with my sister. We created secret underground tunnels, shared endless giggles, and spent our weekends making peanut butter cookies with a Hershey Kiss pressed right into the center. At Grandma’s house, we could eat as many cookies as we wanted and run barefoot through her beautiful garden, bathed in sunlight and overflowing with flowers.

Her backyard was an oasis.

It was a place where my sister and I dreamed, played, and learned how to use our imaginations. There was a rope swing hanging from a ginormous tree, I still have no idea how she managed to get it up there. With all her strength, she would send us soaring across the yard, high above the garden. It was the first time I ever felt like I was flying.

She was always ready with a sarcastic comment and never hesitated to tell it exactly how it was. She could say something completely out of pocket and have the entire room roaring with laughter.

While her life held many difficult moments, she remains one of the most resilient women I have ever known. I see so much of that same resilience in my own mother. Through every hardship she faced, she remained deeply rooted in her faith and her love for her family.

Her legacy lives on in the stories she gave us, the laughter she shared, the creativity she embodied, and the strength she passed down through generations.

She will be deeply missed.

i used to feel an ache in my chest thinking about the life i could be living. i had this deep sense of knowing that there was something more out there waiting for me.

now it’s been about one year since justin and i moved from florida to colorado. a year of building a life that once felt so far away from our reach.

every now and then, i catch myself looking around and remembering how badly i wanted this. how many years i spent dreaming about living out west. how many times i wondered if i’d ever actually make it happen.

and i think that’s why gratitude hits differently now.

i would like to publicly announce that i was complimented on my french twice while i was traveling in montréal.

and by the end of my two week adventure, i had adopted a slight french accent.

that one time i went surfing in sand diego. then i got stung by a stingray. then i had an allergic reaction on the plane. then had to ride an ambulance to the hospital. 😀🤙🏻

i’ve known @jysiane for 10 years now and i’ve always considered myself a part of the cardot family. but after this week spending time with vincent’s family, i don’t know which family i belong to more now 👩🏻‍🦰🧑🏻‍🦰😂

i’ll never forget the moment i met jysiane. we were in college at the university of tampa, and let’s just just say i didn’t make the best first impression 😅

i lived off campus and went to go take a nap in my friends dorm room in between classes, and i remember hearing a little knock on the door. this girl walks in with a thick french accent and asks who i was, with a concerned look on her face.

i didn’t realize my friend had any roommates, and jysiane was probably thinking, “who the hell is this random girl in my roommates bed??”

but once i assured her that i was not total creep and that her roommate was my friend…

she was still unsure of me 😂

when we discovered our shared love for reggae music, rock climbing, and tequila, our friendship started to grow.

it has been such a privilege and an honor to be one of your best friends throughout all these different chapters of your life.

to be a witness to the experiences that have shaped you to be the woman that you are today, and to stand by your side as you say “i do” to the man of your dreams.

the sense of joy that you have today is the same joy as when you had first met vincent. to see you two grow together over the years and still keep that joy and love is what makes you both an inspiring couple.

i knew from the moment that i met vincent and could feel the energy that existed between them, that jysiane had found a love that would cherish her and protect her heart for as long as she lives.

vincent, your love for jysiane is so tender and grounding. you see her light and you amplify it with your own. together, you both have built such a beautiful life in montreal, and i have no doubt the life you will build as husband and wife will be a love story for the ages. to know you and share a friendship with you has been a gift. i am so grateful for the memories we’ve shared together, and so excited for the milestones we have ahead of us.
