I met Hunter at church. He was serving coffee. He had a perfectly curated table, where he’d measure the coffee beans to the gram to create immaculate pour overs.

We were soon roommates and lived with each other for 2 and a half years and connected over our faith in and pursuit of Christ, films (Hook), video games (Elder Scrolls), music (Elevation), anime (Gurren Lagann), and countless gifs and memes.

No one showed up for his friends like Hunter. Ask anyone. If you needed a ride to LAX, Hunter would do it in a heartbeat. He would recruit a posse to drive down to my water polo games or see my shows whether in Burbank or New York.

He believed in prayer. Before entering Eric the Trainer’s gym, he’d always stop me to place our hands on the building and pray over Eric and everyone who came to the gym.

He had an incredible right brain. He loved art. He loved music, cinema, and dance. He signed up for singing lessons. He wrote poetry. He made his body a canvas.

He had an incredible left brain. He loved math and would read the fine print of any and all documents. He loved logistics, and tactical board game strategy.

Hunter had a special pain, and complexity. Hunter had his eccentricities. And his shortcomings. Some annoying. Some tragically hurtful. The Hunter I knew may be different than the Hunter you knew. The only person who can truly know Hunter is his Creator.

The memory of Hunter I choose to hold is the servant-heart. Who inspired me to go above and beyond for my friends. The ultimate cheerleader, promoter, and hype man. The dreamer, the creator. The giggler. The friend.

Love you Hunter.

Believe it. 🍃 by @heyclayton
