I ask, honestly: what the fuck are we doing? 1 mayor, 10 councillors, 7 park board commissioners, 9 school trustees from a list of easily close to if not hundred combined candidates. Add 2 plebiscite questions and 4 more on capital borrowing and the asshole NDP decision to hold a snap election close enough to the municipal election just to make things a little bit more convoluted and anxiety inducing... One ought not to be surprised why people are enraged, apathetic, cynical, and throw in any number of other negative emotions surrounding the entire process. No one knocked on my door. I approached candidates at their booths during street festivals, I went onto the websites and read their platform (the Greens is 72 pages!!!!), I watched debates, and read articles. I am more engaged now than at any point in my life and still my cynicism is stratospheric.

These officials bank on our disillusionment so my suggestion: ward system, ranked ballots, make shit easier for fuckssake. Despite everything, I still voted but imagine how many more people might turn out if politicians availed themselves more and the ballot wasn't a metre in length!! Imagine having to write out all your choices so you don't forget who to vote for when entering the booth!! by @heydave_questionmark

As you can see, the fall weather is lovely here. I ran some errands on Tuesday and told myself to take advantage of the temps and do a big ride. From the Drive, I headed east and went to the Simon Fraser campus then through the Burnaby mountain area where I resided when I first moved out here, down Lougheed and west down the Central Valley Parkway home. My Strava is fucking up so you'll have to take my word for it: no screenshots. This was possibly the most difficult ride I've done. SFU is up on a hill so your ascent is gradual but continuous and there's constant traffic barreling up the hill alongside you. Not fun but a terrific workout and gorgeous views. September wasn't so bad. We all enjoyed some nice weather, terrific concerts, good hangs with friends and acquaintances, celebrated some birthdays, played records for appreciative ladies and gents, visits to farmers markets, and beautiful homegrown bounty. Let's say arrivederci to the month. I'll be doing the thang tomorrow from 6:30-10:30 at @pleasetastingroom by @heydave_questionmark

Hoping for a sunny weekend so I can share all my Roy with you. Today is his birthday and all weekend long I'll be playing his music... everywhere. If you're unfamiliar with Roy Ayers, come see me this weekend. You know what's cool about DJing? Putting people who enjoy music onto tunes or artists they may never have heard of. It will forever upset me that I didn't get the chance to see him live. by @heydave_questionmark

I saw the trees by my work getting a red tinge to them. Leaf dust kicks up when I ride my bike and I've seen the occasional yellow leaf fall. The sun sets earlier and that knowledge of what's to come is imminent: the footsteps of fall are increasingly louder. All that to say... Let's enjoy this sunshine and warmth while we can! Here's where I'll be this weekend!! It's going to be busy, fun and dance filled!! It's also Roy Ayers birthday tomorrow so you better believe there will be A LOT of Roy in the record bag!! Thank you @dennisthefoodie for creating this poster for me and thanks to Lala and the Car Free folks for having me spin!! If I'm playing 3 nights in a row like the pros, gotta advertise like one! 😉
