Hey Elbow are back – and coming to Viva Sounds! After a few years away, the Malmö trio returned earlier this year with FLOCK, an album shaped by collaboration, improvisation and constant movement. 💿Our fourth album “FLOCK” is out today!💿 FLOCK is a 40-minute piece that we wrote as part of a stage work created together with dancers and scenography at Inkonst in Malmö. Shortly after the performance, we recorded the piece in one continuous take at @studiosickan We highly recommend to listen to the album as it is intended, in 40 min straight. Since the performance was a collaboration between dancers, scenography and light, we wanted to continue the idea of FLOCK as a moving and flexible project — shaped by the artists and musicians we invite, and constantly evolving depending on guest performers and venues. On this album we collaborated with @katrineamsler , @bagge.t , @pelofz , @frejadrakenberg and @ljudsandra — which we’re really grateful for. Album design by @ekuvelius Recorded and mixed by @studiosickan Mastered by @mlprod_vrtkl Photographs by @emmalisapauly Thanks to everyone involved 💙 Our release and premiere concert will take place at Intonal on April 24, where we will be joined by @malinamidera and @bagge.t 🔥 Looking forward! INTONAL 2026 Artist Presentation: Hey Elbow After a several year hiatus, Hey Elbow return — renewed. Formed in Malmö in 2013, the trio has always worked through collective instinct. Their music resists hierarchy: instruments move freely between background and foreground, melody and noise, structure and drift. Across previous releases, Hey Elbow have developed a sound that is both immediate and elusive — melodic yet fractured, emotionally direct yet full of space. FLOCK, their fourth album, will be released in March 2026, with a premiere performance at Intonal. The music first took shape in 2022, as part of a stage work created with dancers and scenography at Inkonst. Together they explored what it means to act as an individual within a group — how identity can be held, stretched, or dissolved in relation to others. After the premiere, Hey Elbow brought these ideas into the studio. The album emerged as a layered, open form — built from the trio’s foundations but extended through invited improvisers, who added textures, tangents, and new trajectories. This sense of movement remains central to the project: the songs are not fixed, but porous. At each performance, local musicians join the ensemble, allowing the music to shift and respond. At Intonal, Hey Elbow will be joined by Malina Midera (synth) and Tove Bagge (viola) — not to repeat a composition, but to reassemble it in light of the moment.
