Last year I interviewed New Orleans artist Willie Birch on the 20th anniversary of Katrina. He’s turning his home studio in the Lower Ninth Ward into a community hub for arts and culture and continuity. Willie is so humble and self-effacing that it was hard to get a sense of the breadth and grandeur of the art he’s created over the years. Books and photos don’t do justice to the large scale works. But you can now see the luminous wonders for yourself at his first-ever career retrospective — at age 83! — at the @caaminla in Los Angeles. There was even a dance party after! 🪩🎨 taken in California African American Museum by @heyhochman

Definitely one of my favorite travel assignments ever. 🇧🇷 A Rio samba immersion for @virtuosoltd’s 25th anniversary cover. @chocproject @sebastianblu.e and I met some beautiful people along the way, starting with photographer @tessvisual.
