As a stay at home mom with four kids + a cop wife, having a thing of my own didn’t seem so possible in this season. Yet you guys show up again and again booking me, working with my limited availability and trusting me to capture all your special moments 🤎

“Be careful who you marry” always sounded like some bitter warning to me. The older I get, the more I realize how serious it really is. Because one day, life will get really, really hard. You’ll lose people you love. You’ll carry things you never expected to carry. There will be seasons when you don’t have the strength to be the strong one.

How your spouse loves on you in those moments. How they hold you when you fall apart. How they carry some of the weight when you can’t….. you can’t always choose what life puts on your shoulders. But who you choose to walk through it with can change everything about how heavy that weight feels.

In December, Ryan & I will be married 5 years and in that 5 years I’ve lost my Papa while postpartum with Jack, Nathan while postpartum with Maverick and now my dad while postpartum with Lyla.

So yes, be careful who you marry. Because the way Ryan has shown up for me time and time again has carried me in ways I can’t describe. by @heyjackiem

Today I had to make the very overwhelming decision to sign off on transferring my dad into comfort care. After being found unresponsive from an overdose in San Francisco earlier this week, it was determined that there was no chance for a recovery. We learned through this process that he is a donor, so they will use the next 48 hours looking for any parts of him that can be used to help another person. While this has caused me an unbelievable amount of pain, I find joy in knowing the life he threw away may be used to help someone else in the end, and that he is now free from his pain and brokenness.

Today I was challenged to look at my father for the last time and forgive him. And while I don’t know if I meant it whole heartedly, I was able to take the opportunity to tell him all he’s missed out on, who I became, and that I forgive him for the pain he caused. Every step of my life has lead me to who I am now. Someone I am very proud of. Both because of him and simultaneously in spite of him.

Im trying to put the anger on pause and mourn the man who told everyone who would listen how good at soccer I was, over-used “they’re just jealous because you’re the most beautiful girl in the world”, and who always told me how proud he was of me.

8 year old me is so heartbroken, 32 year old me is disappointed and angry. Tomorrow me will start day 1 of learning how to start moving forward.
