Hey, we're Jazz & Jay 👋 Welcome to our little corner of chaos!

A quick intro for all the new faces (hi! 🥹) 👇

We’re a couple in our 30s who packed up our life in Perth, W.A., sold nearly everything we owned, grabbed our sausage dog Mia 🐶, and crossed the Nullarbor in a van (which Jazz is also converting into a campervan, check out our "Van Build" highlights 🚐)...

All to chase down a wild dream of restoring a 115+ year old abandoned stone farmhouse in an old mining town on the Yorke Peninsula, S.A. (crazy right 😅)

Yes — it’s falling apart. Yes — it’s mildly haunted.
And yes — we’re absolutely winging it 😅

We do have a background in renovating… but this is our biggest, boldest (and most stubborn) project yet as well as being our first stone house renovation... but we're up for the challenge 💪

We’ve been lucky to have some incredible legends help us on-site too — because trust us, this place needs ALL the help it can get 😅

We're OFFICIALLY halfway through the reno chaos 🫠 (and what better way to celebrate than with a photo dump 😜)

There's definitely still more dust than floor, but we’ve officially entered the “light at the end of the tunnel” phase (we think… we hope… send help 🙃).

2026, you better be ready — because we’ve got plaster dust in our hair and plans on the wall 💪

Every room may still be a work in progress, but big changes are coming as we're now moving into the "picking out new bits" part of the reno and we're BL**DY EXCITED 😍

This mistake was slowly destroying our house… 😳

Turns out having the concrete on your front verandah HIGHER than your front door is… not ideal. 😂

Over the years, previous owners had poured more concrete over the old slab until eventually it ended up higher than the front door threshold.

So when it rained, water could make its way into the hallway — and after years of that, the old timber floor inside had started rotting. 🫠

The old verandah came down ages ago, but before we can pour a new slab at the correct level and eventually put the verandah back, all that concrete had to go. 🔨

And underneath it? Apparently someone’s old rubbish disposal system. 😂

An old kettle, car wheel rim, a chunk of rail, broken glass, pottery, an old open-ended spanner… and plenty of other random treasures.

Apparently at some point the solution was simply “If it cracks… just concrete over it again.” 😂👌

So yes, the Horror Reno currently looks slightly worse again… but we’re slowly undoing decades of questionable decisions so we can put this beautiful old girl back together properly. 🥹🏡

And maybe keep the water OUTSIDE this time. 😂

We definitely ignored this for WAY too long… 😅

The kitchen garden has been overgrown and neglected since before we bought our abandoned 115 year old stone farmhouse — but today we finally took it back 🌿

And of course… we had to set ourselves up with the right safety gear first, so we both picked up some new work boots from @bataindustrialsaustralia at @bunnings before tackling the kitchen garden jungle. (They’ve honestly been so comfy too — if you’re on the lookout for a new pair, definitely worth checking them out.)

What should we plant first in the new kitchen garden? 🤔👇

A big moment for this old beauty — the last window on the stone part of the house is officially in 🪟✨

This one wasn’t easy. The walls were uneven, there were remnants of dragonfruit 🌵 roots still lurking between the stones, and we questioned a lot of life choices in the process… but standing here now, looking through the frame into the future kitchen garden and paddock beyond, it suddenly all feels worth it 🥹.

It’s just a window — but it’s also a turning point. One more piece of the puzzle. One more breath of new life into a home that’s waited so long to be seen again.

And yeah… Jason may look chill in this photo, but just know there was a lot of swearing and group man muscle power before those thumbs went up 😂

Everyone told us to bulldoze it… so of course we’re doing the opposite. 😅

We’re Jazz & Jay — an Aussie couple with a habit of looking at run-down, forgotten houses and thinking “we reckon we could save that.”

This one might be our craziest yet.

An abandoned early 1900s stone farmhouse in rural South Australia, left to slowly decay — plants growing through the walls, daylight where daylight definitely shouldn’t be… and a VERY long list of things very, very wrong with it. 😅

But there’s something pretty bloody special hiding underneath all that chaos — and we’re determined to bring it back. 💪

So, let’s get back to saving this old girl…

She might still be a little rough around the edges… but she’s standing proud. Since our new (old) front door is officially in, she deserves her moment on the grid 📸

Stained glass, solid timber, and enough attitude to hold her own against decades of dust, spiders, internal pigeon parties and questionable floor boards.

She still needs a bit of love… but don’t we all? 💅

You won’t believe this is the same house 🤩

What started as just a "little" side reno became a MAMMOTH of a job 🫠 and we're so excited to be finally finished!!! The Brown House isn’t so brown anymore 🥹.

So much love, (and blood, sweat and tears 😂) went into it and we're genuinely so excited to see it go to its new owners/forever family hopefully soon enough 🤞.
