But God 💗

#BragOnGod by @heymelisa

California, you held us well. 🤍

We came to be with family and friends, and we left with our hearts so full. We soaked up time around full tables, long hugs, and the kind of laughter that heals something in you.

And in the midst of it all, Ni’mah. A blessing, a favor, a grace we didn’t earn and couldn’t have orchestrated. Some gifts come in ways that are sacred and personal. God knew exactly what we needed, and He delivered it wrapped in people we love.

Our hearts are so full. We’re in overwhelming awe of God’s abundant blessing and favor. 🤍

Offense opens the door. Unforgiveness keeps it open. Gossip invites others in. 🚪

Offense is an emotional manipulation tactic of the enemy.

This is why scripture tells us to forgive quickly and not to go to sleep angry:
“And ‘don’t sin by letting anger control you.’ Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26-27, NLT)

Holding on to unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, and resentment gives a foothold to the devil. The longer you let it fester, the deeper it gets rooted in your heart:

“Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” (Hebrews 12:15, NLT)

Choose forgiveness. Name what hurt, then release it to God before it takes root.

Choose silence. Don’t replay it, retell it, or recruit anyone to your side.

Choose prayer. Ask God to heal your heart, and bless the one who offended you.

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (Proverbs 4:23, NLT)

Offense gives the enemy access. Cut him off.
Guard your heart. Guard your mouth.

Bad leadership rarely announces itself. It sounds like Scripture.

Pride and the twisting of words travel together.

A leader who can’t be corrected will eventually correct Scripture to fit themselves. Pulling a verse out of its context to demand obedience isn’t submission, it’s manipulation. And manipulating the Word to control God’s people amounts to witchcraft.

Leaders give an account for the flock (Hebrews 13:17), and they’re judged more strictly (James 3:1). That’s the standard, and it applies to every title in the room.

Don’t just trust the voice. Test the spirit (1 John 4:1). Follow leaders as they follow Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).

When the Word is twisted, silence is not neutral. It’s agreement. by @heymelisa

Just a random “I can’t believe I get to be loved by you” post. My wife is the kindest, most generous, smartest woman I’ve ever met… and she GENUINELY loves me WELL…. I can’t believe this is my life sometimes…. Wow. by @heymelisa

Happy Birthday, MJ
Family isn’t always blood born. God hasn’t chosen to bless me with biological children as of yet, but that fact has made you all the more special to me. Family bonds are made and strengthened by choosing each other and showing up, and you have always shown up. I love you for that.

You took the circumstances life handed you and made the best of them, with a strength and grace that I admire deeply. And when life has been at its hardest for me, you’ve been right there. That kind of loyalty can’t be taught. It comes from who you are.

I’m proud to call you my son, MJ. Thank you for being you. I love you, and I’m always in your corner.

Read that again. 100%. No exceptions.

And yet the blame keeps landing on survivors. In our families. In our churches. In our courtrooms. In our group chats. We ask “why was she there?” instead of “why did he do it?”

That’s the lack of accountability. It wounds a second time. Silence is not neutral. It always sides with someone.

The shame stories that play out in your mind are not who you are. It’s not your fault if someone took advantage of you, abused you, or raped you. Whether you were somewhere you weren’t meant to be, were intoxicated, froze, said no, were coerced, or just gave in. You didn’t “get what you deserved”. I sit here and I hold space for the injustices you’ve endured. You are worthy of love. You deserve healing. I see you and I hear you. I am you.

God is not neutral about this. In Ezekiel 34, He speaks to the ones entrusted with His people and names what hurting sheep need: strength for the weak, healing for the sick, someone to bind up the injured. He promises to hold accountable those who fail to protect the flock, and to tend the wounded Himself.

Forgiveness never meant erasing consequences. Grace was never meant to be a hiding place for harm.

If you were never believed, I believe you. If you were told to stay quiet, you’re allowed to speak. 🤍

Continuing to be 👋🏽 present, in the light & pain & imperfection, where love lives 🤎🤍🖤

I see you and I hear you. I am you. 🫂
