Happy International DJ Day! I dedicate this mix to you, my fellow DJs, to the only group of people who would understand why I heard music in every hit on the pads, every Thai phrase screamed on the mats, every tropical bird call, and why I geeked out when I realized they play music and do a ritual dance (Wai Kru Ram Muay) before every fight. In the spirit of Muay Thai, this is for my teachers, and my ancestors, including my Dad who was my first musical influence✨✨✨
I recorded this set on Koh Yao Noi at @kynphoenixmuaythai 🥊 It was inspired by my time training Muay Thai and by local Thai artists. DJing is part of who I am. It finds me no matter where I go in the world and no matter what I’m doing. I don’t feel like I’ve fully experienced a new city, or like the community truly gets me, until I’ve DJed there.

This Saturday we’re getting PRIMAL back on Pasai Beach at Mojito Bar where it all started ✨💖🙏🏼
Flash back to a month ago- I had been training Muay Thai everyday for a month and was too exhausted to hunt for the decks until I saw a flyer for DJ Bodhe’s beach party! I showed up with my drive and ended up playing for almost 3 hours. So grateful to be playing my last gig on KYN where we kicked it off!

When I’m prepping for a set I usually make a folder for each hour then play by key/ by the vibe. As I was getting the set ready for NYE, I realized I was going to need an epic track for midnight (hello) so I made a folder of options for that. As the countdown approached- I couldn’t find anyone to help with the mic 😅 so I (reluctantly) stepped TF up and gave Ya (owner) the “Black Pearl” chant he was looking for at midnight and popped my mic cherry all at once. I ended up picking “Energy” by @disclosure followed up by “I Don’t Want to Go Back” by @djmarcolys , it created this beautiful emotional moment on the beach while we watched the fireworks and luckily overshadowed my mic work 🫣 I won’t ever forget this moment holding hands with @lisa_not_blackpink , the first friend I made in Thailand, filled with gratitude 😭✨ side note how did I go from fighting for my life on the Muay Thai mat to DJing the biggest New Year’s Eve party on the island in a matter of 3 days?!? A story for another day 😂
