I’ve got work to do! Had all weekend for this confusing convo, but you crank right up on Monday with this foolishness. 🤦🏾‍♀️

The #babyboomer don’t understand this #workfromhome life. They really think you chillin’! 🤣🤣

Am I alone with this???? Do you have the same issues with your family members?

60,000+ steps later… here's what I learned about dressing for large conferences.

If you're attending a large professional conference like SHRM, don't just dress to impress…

Dress to survive.

This year (like past years), #SHRM26 had:
20,000+ HR professionals
650+ HR technology and service vendors
400+ industry experts and speakers
375+ educational sessions
28 recertification credits

Between walking the expo floor, attending breakout sessions, networking, standing in lines, and running from one event to the next, your feet (and your outfit) will thank you.

Being over 40, things have changed. I have to be comfortable now, so I'm not regretting it later.

Here's what worked for me:
👟 Comfortable sneakers every single day
👚 Lightweight, breathable fabrics
👜 Crossbody bag & your conference tote
🥼 Lite sweater for those freezing conference rooms
👉🏾 Simple outfits that looked polished but felt comfortable

I walked 20,000+ steps in one day, and I never regretted choosing comfortable sneakers over uncomfortable heels or flat sandals.

You can absolutely look professional without sacrificing comfort.

What's your go-to conference outfit? Drop your best tip below! 👇🏾💜

Some companies sponsor events. Others create experiences people talk about long after they're over.

One of my favorite memories from #SHRM26 wasn't a session speaker or breakout session.

It was the attendee experience.

From the moment I arrived, Orlando felt transformed. Branded shuttle buses, luxury transportation with Cadillac Escalades, interactive activities, nice giveaways, scavenger hunts, collectible pins, and a Disney after-hours event that had thousands of HR professionals feeling like kids again.

I don't know who was responsible for designing the @paycomsoftware experience, but they clearly understood something important:

💜 People remember how you make them feel.

As HR professionals, we talk a lot about employee experience.

💚 But attendee experience matters too.

The best experiences aren't always the most expensive. They're the ones that create excitement, encourage connection, and make people want to participate.

✅ Mission accomplished.

I collected pins.

Enjoyed the scavenger hunt.

Took way too many pictures.

Walked 20,630 steps in a single day. 😂🏾

And somehow still managed to smile through every one of them.

As someone who has worked in HR for nearly 15 years, I always pay attention to the details behind the scenes. The planning, coordination, branding, logistics, and creativity required to execute an experience at this scale are impressive.

The conference may be over, but the memories definitely aren't.

Paycom is the first HRIS that I ever implemented and used their platform for years. It's been a while since I've used them.

Who uses Paycom as their HRIS?

The older I get, the less impressed I am by the hype.

The habits that changed my life were actually pretty boring:
💰 Living within my budget
🛒 Shopping with a list
🚫 Saying no
✨ Owning less

Boring? Maybe.

Life-changing? Absolutely. 💜🙌🏾

Six months before this photo, I was unemployed for a year. Six days after this photo, I’m laid off again.

When I interviewed for the role, I completed multiple assignments and went through 5-6 rounds of interviews.

Like many professionals who have experienced a long period of unemployment, I looked past the red flags in hopes of an opportunity to rebuild.

I wasn't looking for perfection.

I was looking for stability.

What I'm reminded of is that poor leadership doesn't just impact business results.

It impacts people's lives.

When leaders create cultures built on fear, passive aggression, workplace bullying, poor communication, and reactionary decision-making, employees pay the price.

And when companies recruit candidates who are already in vulnerable situations—people who have been laid off, are struggling financially, or are trying to rebuild their lives, they have an even greater responsibility to lead with integrity.

Hiring someone is not just filling a position.

👉🏾 You're asking someone to trust you with their livelihood.
👉🏾 You're asking them to trust your vision.
👉🏾 You're asking them to put their career, finances, family, and future in your hands.

Too many organizations underestimate the weight of that responsibility.

This experience taught me something important:

🚩 Red flags rarely disappear after you accept the offer. They usually become bigger.

For every job seeker reading this:

Trust your instincts. Ask difficult questions.

Pay attention during the interview process.

Interviewing a company is just as important as them interviewing you.

This position was a reminder that I've been moving scared.

After taking this company from $150k per month to $1M in my first 60 days, creating processes that directly impacted business, building relationships with leadership AND employees, then putting their feedback in place - it's clear that I've been playing it safe.

If you know of any positions or leads, please send me a DM right here on Instagram.

I almost walked away from HR completely.

Not dramatically. Not to make a point.

I just... didn't think I belonged anymore.

I failed my HR certification exam by 10 points.

After all the studying. After all the money my employer invested. After telling everyone I was going to pass.

I sat in my car and ugly cried. Mascara everywhere. The whole thing.

I felt like a fraud.

Here I was helping other people with their careers — and I couldn't even pass an exam.

Then life piled on. Burnout. Laid off. Starting over at 40-something wondering if the universe was telling me HR wasn't my path.

But here's what rock bottom taught me:

I stopped asking "why did this happen to me?" And started asking "what is this teaching me?"

That failed exam showed me where my gaps were. It showed me how I needed to study differently.

So I created my own notes. My own flashcards. And I passed.

Now I'm a Senior HR Business Partner with 14+ years in this field — using those same notes to help others avoid my struggle.

If you're in that place right now? That moment doesn't define you.

What you do next does. 💜

Drop a time you almost gave up but didn't in the comments — I want to hear your story.

And if you're prepping for your HR certification, my study notes are on HeyyyHR.com. Link in bio.

Job descriptions be lying! I said what I said. 😏

After 14+ years in HR, I've seen every red flag get dressed up in corporate speak. These phrases sound good until you're 3 months in wondering why you can't breathe.

Save this so you know what to ask in your next interview. And tag someone who needs this translation. 💜

My father died from prostate cancer when I was 9 years old. That left Momma raising 4 girls and working multiple jobs at the time after pushing through a childhood of abuse, neglect, and harm while being one of the first to integrate schools.

She's a strong woman who rarely sheds a tear. She's been my motivation for a long time.

After working as the HR Generalist for a company for a couple of years, the HR Director position became vacant. I figured, what's the need to apply?

If they thought I was a fit for the role that I had filled in an interim capacity for 9 months, then they would promote me. A few members of the executive leadership team spoke with me several times, insisting that I apply.

So, I finally did. 🤦🏾‍♀️

After my interview, a few employees came to my office to say how members of the executive team told them that they felt my interview was a waste of time because I shouldn't have the role.

My mind immediately went to the fact that I was vulnerable in that interview. My first memory was when they asked who my mentor was.

I said my mom.

One director in this panel interview literally laughed out loud during the interview, then said she was expecting me to say Michelle Obama.

That didn't stop me from progressing my career. It just made it clear to me that I needed to progress my career at a company that accepted me, but not that particular company.

Not long later, my salary increased far beyond the pay range for the SAME job title but at a DIFFERENT company. After that, Heyyy HR! by Timeka Green was born, and my heart felt relieved that I didn't let one job stain my career path.

Knowing that my mom had sacrificed so much since her childhood, just so that so many other brown girls and I were given opportunities, became not only the reason she was my mentor but also the reason my career was started AND GREW!

This is a reminder to you to stay focused‼️
If they treat you badly, they don't deserve you.

Not hearing back hurts, but STOP letting it define you and your qualifications‼️

And it will mess with your confidence if you let it.

You start questioning everything:
Was my resume good enough?
Did I say something wrong?
Am I even qualified for this anymore?

And the hardest part?
It’s not always the rejection emails…

It’s the silence.

No update.
No feedback.
No direction.

But here’s the shift that changed everything for me and for so many professionals I’ve worked with:

Silence is NOT rejection. It’s information!

It’s telling you:
➡ Your resume may not be positioning you correctly
➡ Your application strategy may need to shift
➡ You might be applying without a clear target
➡ Or you’re missing the behind-the-scenes rules of how hiring actually works

Because let’s be real…
Most people were never taught how to navigate the job market strategically.

They were told:
“Apply online.”
“Work hard.”
“Wait your turn.”

And that advice? It’s outdated.

That’s why I created the Get Your Foot in the Door Mini-Course.

Inside, I walk you through:
✔ How to position your resume so recruiters actually notice you
✔ How to apply strategically (not just repeatedly)
✔ How to stop guessing and start getting traction
✔ How to confidently move in your career—even if you feel stuck right now

You don’t need to keep refreshing your email, hoping for a different outcome.

You need a better approach.

✨ If you’re ready to stop feeling stuck and start seeing movement:
Check the link in my bio and get started with the mini-course today.

📌 Save this for the days to help you find that dream job you deserve!

You're not getting hired because of one of these 5 things... and #3 isn't what you think.

Your resume isn't the problem.

I've been in HR for 14+ years, and I've watched qualified people get passed over while others land interviews left and right.

The difference? It's usually one of these 5 things.

Here's what's actually holding you back:

1️⃣ No clear target role — applying to "anything" gets you nothing
2️⃣ Spray and pray — 100 applications with zero strategy
3️⃣ Not following up — they forget you exist, but don't go wild either
4️⃣ Underselling transferable skills — you don't even sound like you believe in yourself
5️⃣ Overthinking instead of acting — perfectionism is not your friend, bust a move...just make sure it's a strategic move

No gatekeeping here. Just the truth. 🤌🏾

Save this for your next job search sprint. And drop a 💜 if #5 called you out!
