Baby boy you have outdone yourself again.From the things they said you couldn’t do..To the teachers that believed and proved that you could. There was some weight I was still carrying. Tucked deep inside. I’d cry my eyes out every time I drove back across that bridge. You released all of that for me. There is a special love between this mother and her sons. The reminder that God loves me, trusts my leadership and empowers my will. They will always be the best part of me. Every day their success gives me permission to live. To do the things I put on hold, to try the things I couldn’t risk and to love with a heart that’s been rebuilt and reinforced. My son continues to make me proud. Not just because he earned a degree. In fact he earned multiple. He had a plan. He stuck to it. He had to pivot, reroute and be disciplined. I know now that You were the mission.The thing that I would not fail.The thing that would demand the most of me.The thing that makes me continue learning.I lose sleep over it.I scrap the plans and start over.It made me a seer, a sayer, a doer.It made me an endurer.There is no plan B. Being a barber is more than just cutting hair and collecting money. It's about making the person in the chair feel great about themselves, even if it's only for a short moment.When my friend @blacc_atlas called and asked if I could cut Roman's hair but "Bro, I want to warn you, he's autistic, and other barbers weren't comfortable because he gets excited." Although this was my first experience cutting a person who was autistic let alone a kid but of course I said no problem.At first, his dad had to hold him while I cut his hair, but he was still overwhelmed. After the cut, his dad explained that to Roman, the clippers sound like chainsaws. That really stuck with me.After a few haircuts (and a busted lip or two for dad), I suggested we try something different. I asked if we could put headphones on him and play his favorite show or music to help him relax. And just like that... it worked.Did he still have setbacks? Of course. But that's life- we all do.Fast forward a few years. One day even tho Roman had 3 clients i front of him(lol) he said he was next and just jumped right into the chair by himself. I looked at his dad and said, "Let's see what happens."That day, Roman got his FIRST haircut all by himself. To see the reaction and tears from his dad its moments like that remind me why I love what I do.
